So Quarles vs. Rankin huh?

Whoo!

The Nature Boy is excited about this one. The Rebels finally get some revenge on a coach who led his team to bigger and better rankings. Maryville fans, be prepared, because revenge will not come this season.

Alcoa has something up their sleeves. The school knows it, the coaches know it, the team knows it... The News Sentinal and everybody else will know it after Friday night. Y'all know what I'm talkin about...

Alcoa knocks off Maryville. Both teams win state titles. The small school gets the shaft at the end of the year in the state polls.

Whoo!

The first and second shirts had no turnovers save for a blocked punt. I thought SD had good speed and they did a very nice job blocking that punt. Can't remember when the last time was that MHS had a punt blocked, but you can bet GQ and company have addressed that issue this morning at the coaches film review. I do also think that MHS, like many other teams, play to the level of the competion. I thought the ball presuit was pretty good, but will have to be better vs. Alcoa's speed. Maryville had three RB's who did not go down on the first hit and had no trouble lowering the sholder for the extra yard. The effort was good and having a game under the belt is a huge factor in the Alcoa vs. Maryville. Saga

Past years it has been Alcoa who has had a game under the belt coming into the rivaly.

First off Singleton has a great leg for a punter but hes not a specialist like me and taka we work on that stuff everyday, he was lined up ten yards back we your supposed to be 14 yards so give him a break hes a great running back and should continue to focus on that

I dont see Rae as a factor, the last 2 years Maryville has ran away from Brandon Warren on every play, and who did they run right at??? That would be Rae. Rae is a great athlete with a lot of potential, but he stands up way to much on defense and Maryville has used this to their advantage in the past years with their great technique on the offensive line.

I think the Power I formation will give Maryville some trouble. The offensive line looked really good in scrimmages and the jamboree, and not to mention the beef and hard hitting that Hicks and Stultz bring from fullback. Shivy also looked great, seems to have got a lot better. Alcoa will be successful with this, but not all game long.

I look at this game just like Maryville's state championship games have been in the past. Everybody thought Maryville would get beat, but the coaching staff came through for them by making good adjustments, by varying up formations and play calling, and by using some trick plays. These are the things that Alcoa must do, and it will be hard against GQ, but he is mortal, and I have confidence in Rankin and his staff.

Maryville fans.......what would be a good time to arrive at the stadium for a good seat, I was thinking about 530.

yea try about 12:30

Do you really think that is the case?? Obviously not having Baker is a loss but what about the other 3?

Two of the other three are co-starters at OLB. So now Maryville will have a 3rd teamer at OLB. Pretty tall task against Shiverdecker and Co. Also, one of the OLB's was a valued backup at RB. So now Maryville will have a sophomore at RB who weighs about 150 lbs.

How do you think it would affect Alcoa to lose Shiverdecker ( sp?) , and 2 defensive starters ? No matter what happens , there will be no excuses from Maryville's side . Funny how I'm still hearing about how Brandon Warren would have made a 4 touchdown difference though .

You didn't hear it come from me. Not sure how you implemented me in that. I believe my question was simply how this would effect the game. There is an old saying however, that what goes around comes around. Meaning that last year Alcoa had to deal with a suspension and this year Maryville has to deal with suspensions.

I still would think Maryville should win.

I wasn't talking about you , this is from some of my Alcoa buddies . The difference between this and last year Is that Coach Quarles is not fighting the TSSAA for suspending anyone , it's totally an in house disciplinarian issue . I know that some other schools would not be doing anything under the same circumstances . It wouldn't matter what the circumstances were , Coach Quarles would not be whining about suspensions , or looking into appealing a suspension . I'm glad we have a coach who realizes there's a lot more to coaching these young men than wins and losses .
