Big Country
Alcoa vs Maryville Wait until tomorrow night
KWoodroof
The two teams have scrimmaged every year since 96 or 97 with MBA "winning" most of them in the begining and Riverdale "winning" more recently. It's always the first Friday of two-a-days. It's a good scrimmage for both teams but nothing close to a real game. Hopefully now that Rankin is gone, Riverdale will schedule MBA in a game. Coach A has already shown that he isn't opposed to playing DII teams and I commend him for that. Unless he's had a change of heart from a few years ago, I would doubt it. He was quoted in a Tennessean article relating to the decision of Metro schools to exclude Ryan and MBA from from the Freshman football championships. His remark was something along the lines of, "When they stop recruiting, we'll play them." Again, I don't remember the exact year or date, but I do recall the substance of the statement. MLREB
I know Alcoa AA goes against AAAA State Champs Maryville every year and takes on 0ne of the Big 7 McCallie and in the past they played 5A teams in their county. What other matches in the state have small schools going against larger schools/Divisions? Who are the Davids vs Golaiths in our State? It wasn't always that way. It wasn't too many years ago that Maryville had only a couple of hundred students more than Alcoa
Cowboyfan71
I'd say these rank right up there... Greenback v. Loudon (ouch) Alcoa v. Maryville Crockett Co v. Milan (though not as much) Austin East v. Red Bank (as witnessed by the score) Baylor v. Chatt Central (maybe not in size, but in end result)
Contender
Last year Dobyns-Bennett played Sullivan North High school which is one of the smallest HS in East Tennessee
QSouth89
Catholic vs Austin-East and Fulton. Even though they are all AAA teams, Catholic has the multiplier attached to it. Catholic is a small AA or a large A. They only have 200 boys (maybe more) in the whole school.
rigger101
After seeing Alcao go against Maryville, Fulton and now McCallie. I say they are the true David in TN Football. (with some fast rocks in their sling) David beat McCallie tonight!
