After watching the final quarter of this game last night. I believe Fulton or Catholic will be your 3A champion. The Catholic/Fulton game will be a classic.

Yea, No doubt, the Catholic/Fulton will be the "start" to the state 3A championship.

After watch both teams play AE...........I'm leaning toward a Fulton victory in that game.

 I think I now know who you are. You were one of the "few" that was fired up with the way the school board hired Coach Rankin without interviewing "your boy." Why don't you find a new team to follow, because Coach Rankin is going to be our coach for a long time!

You would be mistaken then... I have no dog in that fight for the coaching game. I think any man (or woman) who gives as much of their time and talent as it takes to be a coach is a winner. I would agree with you I am not thrilled that they laid out a plan to search for a coach and changed what was a good plan. I will say however that given all the facts they had at the time they probably made a good choice. I did not say he was a bad coach just that we were out coached last night.

One of the problems with the web is that folks hide behind their screen names. If you would like to know who I am just ask, I am not ashamed of who I am or what I think. PM me, and we can talk about the game, coaching, kids, or life in general. As long as you keep it factual and not emotional I am in. Football is a game that prepares you for life. Life is about lessons. Learn something from everything and you will always get better.

As for cheering for the Alcoa team and being 100% behind them I will always be there for them. They have never let me down on what I look for in a good football game which is hard working kids playing with a lot of heart. You don’t have to win to learn the best lessons that football teaches you, in fact, some of the best lessons are learned from loosing. Football as a game is as close as it comes to real life in a sport. I was lucky to have played and to have the best of coaches and the worst of coaches in my time in the game.

Both teams last night showed the very best in our young people (except maybe the unsportsmanlike like penalty early). None of the young people who played last night has anything to be ashamed of. In every game that there is a winner there has to be a loser. I think Bear Bryant said it best “I never lost a game, but sometimes the clock ran out on me".

If you disagree with me, use your brain and tell me where there is error in my statement. Do you think we were overmatched last night? Do you think we played & coached the very best game we were capable of last night? Or do you just prefer that people fall into line and not learn from their experiences? This is public forum, enlighten me. And as a final thought, why be angry about a game?

I am not sure what football game you watched last night but it was not the Alcoa game. If you had any clue about what you were talking about you would know that BOTH defenses were putting some serious pressure on BOTH offenses. So do you really think they had time to just chill in the backfield and throw a pass???? How many times did Cobb have to run in order to keep Alcoa alive?? The only thing that got us the W is that our O line REALLY stepped up in the second half and gave Rogan the ability to run and Jack the ability to pass. Rankin did very well and since apparently you weren't present at the game I'll give you a quick summary of last nights game. Basically after Sykes ff on Jock it was a defensive gridlock for the entire half until our line stepped up. Alcoa's D held us well for awhile but got worn down. If you wanna watch the game I think it's On Demand ;-p

As for the comment made by someone earlier, your right the boys on the line don't get any credit, and they deserve all the credit in the world!! Goodluck to Alcoa bring that gold ball home to East Tennessee!!

I was at the game last night, as I have been at every game for the last couple of years. I am not sure why you feel like i said they should have passed the ball. Never said that, in fact the short pass/screen to Rogan was a coaching great call, as well as the fake and quarter back keeper for the 2pt conversion. Masterfull coaching!!!

What i did say was that your coach reacted well to what he saw and came up with plays that allowed you to win a really hard fought classic football game. As for your line really stepping up that is open for some debate. They played a good game and learned and adjusted to the defensive attack of Alcoa. I would think that you would have to agree that your coaches had a hand in that.

Again a terrific night of football, no matter which side of the field you sat on.

That could have been said if it wasn't for Maryuville.

My thoughts on the comment are it should have been more like " We played a great game tonight, our kids played thier heart out, but we came up short in a hard fought game. We will work on our errors and be a better team for them, we will come back a stronger and better team next week".

To say that you would not see a better team in 2a sounds like to me the reason we did not win is because we are a 2a team playing a 3a team. I was not there for the whole conversation the coach had, and often the press does not give you the whole story, but you have to be real careful in what you say and what people will take away from what they read.

In fact today I heard someone I dont know say they same thing about the comment, so i dont think i am the only one who might have taken it wrong.

I tvoed' the CSS FHS vs. Alcoa game and watched most of it late last night and the rest this morning. I find it silly to think a team’s faithful can hang their season expectations on playing another team close. Alcoa did play Maryville tough, but make no mistake Maryville did not play that good of a game and was missing some key players vs. Alcoa. Had Maryville taken care of biz the game would have not been that close. So let’s put that to rest. If Alcoa want's to be the best and enjoy the reputation of it, they have to win the tough games vs. the tough teams, regardless of classification. Fulton has a very good program and those coaches know what they are doing. I do not think Fulton will win it all this year. On the other side of the coin Rankin and his staff are very good coaches in their own right and coaching did not get Alcoa beat. I saw to many players taking plays off and a great deal of sloppy tackling. Also there was a post criticizing the Alcoa O line. Well, it was not those kids up front taking the plays off in my opinion; it was those so called play makers. Watch the film yourself, a players rating and reputation won't make the blocks and tackles for you. The kids who have gotten all the press are the ones who did not produce IMO and that got Alcoa beat. Catching a pass for a TD on a broken coverage might look good in the stats, but won’t mean a hill of beans if the coverage is tough. 2A in East TN is weak, I have said that before. If it were not so there would be more than 2 teams in the top 10 in the east, not counting Alcoa.

I still expect Alcoa to win the region and advance to the state championship game but they will lose maybe two more games to McCallie and Washington. Maybe even Loudon if they don't respond as a team with more resolve. The key players need to step it up and play up to the hype.

Sorry I was tough but I got back on the wagon and Alcoa can play better than they did last night. Don't hang the loss on the kids in the offensive trench or the coaches. They don't tackle or throw/catch passes or get their names in the paper!

By the way BW had a career day in a close win as FSU beat Troy with 3 catches for 56 yards.

lol, I assume your from West TN cause of that cocky attitude and mouth ;-p To say the "play makers" were the ones that lost the game for Alcoa is ridiculous. If a team has a solid defense, then what can ONE single person do?? Regardless, it was one heck of a game and both teams looked solid and BOTH will go on and win state in their classes. And as for the comment about East TN 2A being week, that might be so but East TN 2A sure does bring home that Gold Ball alot ;-p

Fulton wins upfront and Rogan outgains Shivy. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.

It was an exiting game ... Alcoa came out like gangbusters and Fulton's Soph QB put the baal on the ground a couple of times and put the falcons in a hole ... both teams had a couple of penalties that really hurt ... still cant believe falcons won with 5 turnovers and 100 yards in penalties .. but let me say that they hung in and never got their heads down and weathered the blitz and started making some plays in the passing game with Jack Wagner at QB .. Fultons Oline started wearing on the DL for Alcoa in the second half and Rogan showed why he is one the top RB's in the state .. he played both ways and still looked quick in the 4th Qtr ..just ask Langster ... Shiverdecker got some yards but Falcons pretty much kept him in check .. the QB for Alcoa ..Cobb is quick as a hickup and got Fulton a couple of times scrambling .. but in the end it was Falcons OL and DL that was the difference ... they were getting beat the first Qtr but then came to play midway thru the second Qtr till thr end of the game ..great game to watch as a fan .. like I said you are usually not talking about a win when you are playing a team of Alcoa at their place and have 5 turnovers and 100 yards in penalties .. but give the Falcons credit they did not get down and the defense bowed its neck ......

Well, Mr. FBEmeritus. You never cease to amaze me. You can analyze a game and sound halfway intelligent, but you always blow the respect by making some comment about how great Maryville is, or by making some excuse as to why a game was closer than you thought it should be.

Just once I would love to see you not put MHS on a pedestal or make excuses. I think you'd get a lot more respect if you did.

I just want everyone to know that I sat and watched the rebroadcast to this game today from 1-3PM on CSS. Dennis Rogan is THE MAN as far as I'm concerned. Alcoa came out early and looked as if they may repeat last year's blowout performance but Wagner came in for the Falcons and gave them a spark. The defensive line really controlled Alcoa's offensive line throughout the game and they shutdown Shiverdecker as I said. Lanxter's cramping issues really hurt his performance in this one but I'm sure the Fulton coaches will still take it. The lack of a kicking game was huge for Fulton as they converted 3/3 on the two point conversions. Call it the difference if you want to folks but Fulton still wins even if they convert 2/3 two point attempts (that would have made it 22-21 Falcons).

I expect to see both of these teams playing in Murfreesboro the first weekend in December :)

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
