Goodpasture vs. Alcoa

I dont think Goodpasture realizes that they are 1 foot from being 0-4 against Alcoa all time. We are just a big thorn in their side.

Alcoa, unlike goodpasture is a very close nit family and community. Every year someones brother or cousin is playin on the team that played a few years before. Theres still bad blood from when GP went in to Goddard Field and blocked the punt and won the game. I always said last years alcoa team beat GP for the 2001 team...This year Alcoa beats GP for themselves!

I understand that Goodpasture has beaten DL, CPA and some other team...But lets be serious...Maryville is heads above shoulders compared to anyone in the state. Hillsboro or any 5a team can argue but its pointless....First game of the season Alcoa played with the greatest, it wasnt a 45-10 blowout either...they PLAYED with them

Fulton has been talked about as potential 3a condenders. Rankin, as i understand, did something during the fulton game that wasnt exactly a good idea with a 2a school. As far as i know hes corrected that and has moved on. Even with that lil mistake we played with Fulton and if they had a kicker then we wouldnt have lost. As mentioned above, they went for 2pts every time!!

As much as i love watching maryville play because they have that college style offense i have never seen a passing attack like McCallie had. Im really disappointed that they didnt win the state. That team was awesome. However Alcoa went out there and beat them. McCallie threw all over alcoa but alcoa still shut them down.

Anyone and everyone thats played GP, watched GP play in any COMPETIVE game (not some 42-14 blowout of a so called good mid TN team) Games that are tight, very close, where momentum can swing either way with a big play, knows that GP lays down. Ive seen it happen for four straight years. Unlike some people ive seen GP play, ive seen their guys...I keep up with them because i know they are a good team. If they get the momentum there way then they are fine, they can play but its usually still close, I dont see GP having the capabilities of just blowing out a VERY good team-great team like alcoa.

-GP will keep it close for maybe 1 1/2 quarters

-Shivy WONT run for 200+ yds but he will have a lil over 100 and at least 2 TDs

-GPs backs combined MIGHT have 100 yds, only gonna give them 2 TDs combined though.

-Cobb will have at least 2 TDs through the air (1 sommers, 1 Lanxter)

-Multiple alcoa players (Hodge, Stultz, Cobb) can score with the ball in hand...Give them at least 1 TD (not each)

BIG THING TO WATCH: SPECIAL TEAMS!!!! Alcoas speed it too much for Goodpasture, Goodpasture has to play 100% A+ special teams, if not Alcoa will hurt them!!!

Final Score

Alcoa:56

Goodpasture:21

BTW- Did anyone hear where David Martin said that if Alcoa plays their very best and A+ ball that ALCOA MIGHT keep it close??? HAHA There is a reason Coach Martin is one of the most hated coaches in Tennessee.....and its not cause he 'wins" its his arrogance....the same reason why Alcoa is hated ;)

i'm sorry, i knew i said i wasn't going to comment but it's the night before the game, i got on here to read a little of everything and i decided to comment on the most outlandish comment of the entire thing in my belief.

above is stated that goodpasture backs MIGHT (and yes its in caps) have 100 yards, if they don't have a hundred yards i'll stink your big toes. thats crazy - it would have been believable if you had said that they won't have a single back go over 100 yards, but combined????? come on now, be serious- your statement there to me, and i want you to know this, is the dumbest thing posted in all 26 pages of this thread so far!

12:10 am - Finally, the great day is here!!! All this talk about who's gonna do what! Well, let's just sit back on our little piece of the bleachers and let the big boys decide it. Forget about the past, forget about the bad blood, and forget about the rabble rousers. Now is the time for both teams to show everyone the quality players and quality humans that makeup both team!!!!! To make it to this point speaks volumes about their caliber. So let's focus on these young men and their special moment in time. Hooray for the Cougars! Hooray for the Tornados! May you both have great games and be safe. We're praying for you to have an injury-free, fun-filled, self-realizing special night! It's gonna be GREAT! ;):o

Well said.

Tornado74: Goodpasture is 1-3 against Alcoa (postseason play). Of course, I did get that out of the local paper, so it could be wrong! :)

GO TORNADOES!!!

HAHA There is a reason Coach Martin is one of the most hated coaches in Tennessee.....and its not cause he 'wins" its his arrogance....the same reason why Alcoa is hated

You want to make a big deal that you ALMOST beat Fulton, a mighty 3A team, but alas a field goal, and now you're criticizing Rankin for losing that game. And this same Fulton is now playing David Lipscomb in the 3A state championship, the same David Lipscomb team that GP beat. Yet you don't want to give GP credit for BEATING Lipscomb. How is it that a loss to a 3A state title contender is better than a win against a 3A state title contender. Sounds like GP has the edge over Alcoa in this argument.

Laying down in close games?? GP had only a 1 pt advantage over Milan last week at halftime, and GP came out and took the game over. GP was also down at halftime to CPA by 7, and beat them by 14, so you can't possibly say we've laid down in close games. In fact, GP has risen to the challenge as opposed to laying down as you think. And the 3 close games you did play, you lost 2 of them. So clearly, its Alcoa that lays down when the playing gets tough - can't seem to win the big games that are close.

And you're criticizing GP for blowout games, yet Alcoa beat the other 11 teams you didn't mention by a margin of 45 points. (not some 55-0 or 67-0 blowout) I guess those 11 teams you beat are the "so called good teams" of east TN.

McCallie?? So you beat a passing offense. GP played CPA, who has one of the top rated quarterbacks in Tennessee. CPA came out in a pro west coast spread offense with 4 and 5 receivers, yet lost to GP by 14. You only beat a high powered passing offense by 3, yet we beat one, twice, by 14, then 13.

And yes, Alcoa did lose to two teams in higher division, as was probably expected. And you "Played with them", Yet GP played a team from a higher division, and was expected to lose, yet "played with them" and WON. And our game wasn't decided by a field goal. We beat them by a touchdown.

And if your facts aren't completely worthless, your opinions of Martin are Rankin are even more worthless. Sure fans may "hate" Martin and Rankin, but that's because they beat their teams. If you knew anything about football, which your facts above clearly show you don't, then you'd know that the people who know football respect both Martin and Rankin because they know how to make their own teams win.

The more arguments you make, the better I think GP's chances are of beating Alcoa.

I'm hoping for a good close game deserving of a state championship, that is free of injuries.

Both coaches are top of the line, Martin is hated because of the Patrick Turner episode that happened a couple of years ago. Rankin is one of the best, and you can see it because his disciples such Maynard in Smith County have success as well. I wish coach Holloway was still coaching the GP defense, Martin and Holloway were a great combo.

I'm sure both teams have improved as the season has matured. It's a good things these kids will decide the outcome instead of the fans!

The 2004 championship game was really exciting, last year was a yawner, to say the least, maybe because Goodpasture was just happy to be there, and Alcoa was expected to win. This game will be more exciting because of the unanswered questions: Is Goodpasture that much better than last year? Can Alcoa win a state championship without the magnificent five? I truly believe the answer to both of those questions is "yes", but we'll have to wait a few more hours for the outcome!

GO TORNADOES!!!!

Thank you Tornadogold, finally an Alcoa who can admit that GP is a better team than last year. Good luck to both teams - I hope both of them are prepared for the cold

    • If it was anyone but #8 I would agree with you. Theirs a couple people on that team that probably would. Not him. And I who was standing on the 1st base line fence saw clearly that the boys foot was covering more than half the bag.
    • If y’all lose to Farragut something awful has happened.
    • Get him to Bearden ASAP! Or anywhere, Karns hs is in rough shape, probably not getting out of it anytime soon.
    • I'm not a Powell grad.  I am a Bearden grad.   My son and daughter are Powell grads.   I did radio play by play for Powell, my last year was 2013. I also did radio play by play for South Doyle, and my last gig was at Maryville before I retired.   My oldest grandson plays in the Karns Middle program, so I see more Karns games than I do Powell these days.  I've been to 3 Powell games since 2013.   I don't have any ties to Powell, haven't since 2013.   No "y'all" there.    And the kid you are talking about does have a very good arm, but he's not the QB that Deuce Rogers is.  Rogers is a legit dual threat guy.  The younger kid now at Clinton, or about to be at Clinton, isn't the dual threat that Rogers is.
