Barb, what was the score last night? I haven't seen anything posted.

2nd - you made a comment about Devan (trying to get this thread back on an even keel) that I would like to address.

Devan is a great little player that has come from being at the end of the bench last year to a starter. She is a good ball handler, which helps against the press, she can shoot when allowed to, and is usually a good free thrower shooter. She struggled early this year I think partly with learning to play the 2, when she has been a point guard most of her life and is likely Greeneville point guard next year, and partly from coming off of the soccer field and trying to get her basketball skills back in line. If she continues to shoot well, she will cause defenses to think twice about doubling the post. An added plus is that she has played with Nicole forever, and seems to be able to get the ball to Nicole in the right spots.

I think Devan needs to continue to get positive feedback on her play, and she will continue to grow.

I believe that right now, Rachel Collins does exactly what she needs to do for Greeneville, as does Lamons. Yeah, Greeneville would be stronger if Lauren Anderson had not decided to concentrate on track, but Lamons does all the unselfish things that every team needs at least one player to do, especially a team with two big scores like Deans and Dickson. Collins role is to come of the bench and either relieve Deans or Dickson in the post, or relieve Lamons, moving Dickson to the 3, and creating a different look for the opponent. She would be a starter at just about any other school in the area. If you reverse the roles, I don't think Lamons off the bench gives you the same change up that Collins does.

For gosh sake people, they have lost what 3 games, all to great opponents, they are undefeated in the I-MAC, ranked 5th in the state. You sound like someone who bought a Lincoln Town Car, and complains about the gas mileage!

Nice post Ray...spot on about McIntyre and Collins...and the Town Car. I can't recall the score but the Lady Devils won by about 30 with reserves playing most of the second half. On to MoEast on Friday...any predictions

I was in no way trying to bash Jack Blair. I was merely trying to give credit to Coach Crumbley. When she first got here many people didn't even want to give her a chance. A season after losing Lyons and Manuel she takes them to the final four and that was remarkable. This season she loses Forney and Anderson and has the Lady Devils in the top 5. My post was in no way a slap at Blair, just a compliment to what Crumbley has accomplished in her short career at Greeneville.

Blair had incredible talent but ,like Burkey, could not control the attitudes. Crumley impressed me last night in the way she coached the younger girls in the second half. Using lopsided games as teaching venues is the hallmark of good coaching. Nothing drives a lesson home like a game situation in front of a large crowd.

These girls come into the high school program with sound fundamentals and skills thanks to the incredible Coach Muhlhahn at GMS. Maybe Crumley has the advantage over Blair and Burkey because she is a woman and is way better equipped to deal with the little dramas that are part of the girl's game. Whatever it is , it appears to be working...let's just enjoy it.

Good grief, Barb - coaching your reserves when you are up by 30 is impressive? Has there ever been a coach that has not done that? Advantage over Burkey? Like in the state tourney last year when Greeneville is down by 10 and Crumley has them holding the ball in the 4th quarter and thinks she is outcoaching Burkey? I enjoy the kids, enjoy the games, and wish them nothing but the best; however, the coaching staff is not a strength (in my opinion, and we can disagree, no problem).

The coaching staff sure the heck is no worse than what they have had for the first 32 years of greeneville basketball. If you think you can do better then go and help them out. I am sure they would not mind a volunteer helping them out during the offseason. If you watched the game last year in the state you would have to say Greeenville didn't even have a shot. If I do recall correctly they didn't hold the ball when they were down ten. Shelbyville should have killed those girls, but they didn't. Burkey had no clue what to do against the zone that Greeneville played them in. Maybe if you so good then you could help them and make them a strenght!!!!

What exactly do you have against this woman? I think she deserves a lot of credit for keeping this team competitive after Burkey bailed. She is young and she is learning. Neither Burkey or Blair had it going on at her age either.I am sure she is appreciative for the groundwork that has been laid by her predecessors and has found it difficult to step into the shoes of either of those men. Whether you approve or not, she has taken this team farther at the boro than either Lynn or Jack. And unless the talent pool dries up, her skills as a coach will continue to improve. Let's face it Junkie, all good coaches have to start somewhere...in all fairness, you don't really think that she thought she could outcoach the venerable Lynn Burkey...I don't think she is that obtuse.

This post hits it on the head. The success Greeneville has enjoyed over the past 5 or 6 years is nearly all attributable to Coach Muhlhan. I used to scrimmage his middle school teams when I was building my program at T.A. Dugger in Elizabethton. Greeneville Middle was the best competition we could find. The Elizabethton programs success over the past few seasons was helped by our scrimmaging and playing Greeneville at the middle and high school level. Coach Muhlhan is pipelining talent to GHS. The head coaches are reaping what he has sown.

On that note..Congratulations to the 'Betsy girls on a big win over Science Hill. How do you think Greeneville will do against them next Saturday?

Hey Orange-

Lamons is starting because of defense. In case you haven't noticed, she's one of three remaining seniors. Everyone else stopped playing. Crumley understands dedication, and, direct quote, "Any points Morgan scores is [bonus]..., she's in there to be a defensive specialist." Not everyone who plays is in there to score. That's what makes Greeneville a threat, boys and girls; you can't focus on the top one or two scorers, because everyone else is enough of a threat that you can't leave them unguarded. Cause someone like Morgan might just pop off a trey when you're not looking. Like against Alcoa.

I have a question for you, Why do you insist on talking bad about high school athletes? You expect a point guard to have more turnovers than anyone else on the team (since they are the primary ball handler). I have seen Morgan play, I would say her defense is pretty good. Her defense has helped Greeneville out a lot this year. Each player on a team has roles that they play and her biggest role would probably be defense. The no brainer is you don't have a clue about what you are talking about. I do believe that Lamons and Carter both hit big free throws in this game to give them the four point advantage. Here is another question for you, How much did Greeneville win by? 4 points!!!!! If you know what your talking about why don't you go and volunteer some of your knowledge to the greeneville coaching staff! Or heck even volunteer your time in the summer to make these kids better.

Yeah....Morgan did hit two big free throws. But about the point gaurd and turnovers. What is the reason Greeneville lost to Lexington Catholic? They turned up the pressure and Carter turned the ball over. What got Greeneville beat against Shelbyville in the final four last year? Three costly turnovers by Carter that led to a seven nothing run at the end of the third. And Lamons does NOTHING on the court. She is scared to death when she gets the ball she cant shoot, her defense is ok on some nights, but anyways...MARK THESE WORDS the team that ends Greeneville's season down the road will be a team that plays pressure defense and causes turnovers.

If you look at the stats for the IMAC Carter is leading the conference in assists. If you also look at those turnovers not all of them are her fault. Greeneville should have beaten Lexington Catholic, however we had some excellent officiating that kept that from happening. Carter runs the offense extremely well. And the comment that Lamons does NOTHING? You have to be joking me. You must not watch the team play much. She is an excellent defender. I don't think anyone expects her to be a scoring threat for greeneville, but she has hit some three's through the season that have been a spark that the team needed. If you compare her to last years so called excellent defender and three point shooter then she is not so bad! Do you actually think that Greeneville has not played anyone this year that puts pressure defense on them? Let me name a few for you: 1. Cleveland, 2. Lexington Catholic, 3. Wilson Central (the only game they have played bad all year), 4. Archbishop Carrol, 5. Knox Webb. If you look at all five of those teams you can see that the caliber of those teams is very good. Greeenville lost in two overtimes to Cleveland. They got beat by LC with very terrible officiating. Got beat by AAA Defending State Champions. Beat Archbisho Carrol. Beat Knox Webb. I think that the Greeneville team has faced pressure and has handled it better than you want to give them credit. Just like any team there is need for improvement in many areas. I think that if there are people out there that have all this vast knowledge like you and roundball junkie then they should be talking to the coaches and offering their help. But I doubt that will ever happen. People just want to get on her and B_ _ _h about what they think the problem is. So if you are not willing to offer your services then quit bad mouthing what is going on with the team.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
