QUOTE(dins8 @ Apr 11 2007 - 12:37 PM) 826434839Maybe I am being a bit ignorant regarding Farragut. After all, you're right, I haven't seen them since the S.C. tourney. You are also right that all teams have difficulties stringing two halfs together at the beginning of the season.

I still like Bearden in this one though.

I've been called ignorant too many times in my life! Maybe I should shut my mouth more! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

QUOTE((.)(.) @ Apr 10 2007 - 10:52 PM) 826434428one thing to keep in mind here is that 2 out of the last three times farragut played bearden last year they beat them .........AND THEY DIDN'T LOOSE ANYONE

They lost Ben Lawson- who was their best player and they have a new keeper! I don't think of those 2 as anyone. Also, they lost the last one 3-0. And by the way, both of there wins were at home on their football field...this game is at Bearden.

Good luck Farragut.

I believe Farragut has won @ Bearden on their "legal" field. what is with you and the fields?

Farragut lost some talent but they are still probably better than last year. Ben Lawson was good but not there best. He is also replaceable and Adam Greene is better than Tony( Last years goalie). Farragut has given up alot fewer goals this year so i would say losing them was not to hard on them. And as for the 3-0 loss, it was also on Farragut's field that point your trying to make about it being at Bearden does not really work.

But this should be another good game between to of the better teams in the state.

I have problems with soccer being played on a football field...it doesn't matter who it is!! If the object of high-school soccer is to prepare these players for playing at the next level (please spare me the talk of fun and school support, etc, etc,....... because I think that is a given) then I can tell you that I have yet to see a single college or pro game played on a field that is 56 or even 60 yards wide. I think it stinks and it pains me to watch a game being played at a place like West High, where the slope of the field won't allow for a direct kicks to be taken at the spot of the foul or close to the line because the ball keeps rolling down the hill. Yes, this did happen Tuesday in the West vs Bearden game. One time a player had to kick a nice divot in the ground to place the ball in so it would not roll!! Somehow that just irritates me!!! Think of going to watch a basketball game where goals are only 9 feet high- you could argue that " well both teams are playing on the same size goals" which would be true. But the team that always practices on those goals would have an advantage!! I know this doesn't happen, but my point is .... being on your home field where you practice is always an advantage no matter the size of the filed, but some fields give distinct advantages because those teams play a style that fits the field they have to play on. I don't care what team it is- I think it absolutely stinks!!!!!. This is bad for soccer and those players who have to play on them.

I think Bearden and Farragut both conduct practice on their practice fields, Farraguts practice field is pretty big and correct me if i am wrong Bearden practices on a smaller field than their game field? But yes watching soccer on a football field is pretty painful, i do agree on that

Psude Dude, You do seem to favor Bearden very heavily in your posts and if I was a Farragut player or Parent I would assume that your Good Luck to Farragut is a taunt. When did Farragut lose 3-0?? If you are talking about the SC game that was a 3-0 Shoot out hardly a 3-0 loss.

And the new Keeper is a Div 1 Signee and Keeper of the Best Club team in his age group, not a step down by any means maybe a step up.

Anyway , Here is how I see this game: Both have Great Talent, Both have taken alot of shots this year and not finished them, Both have great Keepers, Both have great coaches with great schemes who love to challenge each other, Field favors Bearden, but the winner is the finishers not the shooters. Comparing overall talent I would go with Farragut but if the talent doesn't show up, The Bearden's tenacity will. Still after reviewing everything ( I did get the WestVs. Bearden game right on the money), I see

the game 3-1 Farragut /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

pseudo, coming from someone who's team plays in the stadium, I would agree that the small field plays a roll in advantages for the game. I think it is the coaches responsibility to do everything they can in training to make his team prepared for the bigger or smaller dimensions and plan your preparation around that. I would love it if everyone had a field that was closer to 70 yards wide or more but it isn't going to happen anytime soon. So we try and get ready to play on the fields that we do have to deal with. I'm not trying to be critical at all, just make a point that there are ways to deal with the field in advance and give your team the best chance possible of performing well. I know this is a Bearden/Farragut post so I'll put in my prediction, 2-2 tie in the first of what may be 3 or 4 matches against each other. I'm also really excited that WMAK is covering the game, I have heard that this is just the first game they will cover and that others will follow, which I think is awesome. About time soccer received the same treatment as other sports and should be cool for the fans and players to have a tv crew covering their game.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
