MARYVILLE VS POWELL

I do not know if this thread is still about the game but if it is then I think it is safe to say this is a Maryville win over a much improved Powell team. Powell probly is still not back to what they used to be but this will be good game for them to see how far they have come. Powell might end up like Nebraska though. I mean Maryville is the USC of Tennessee high school football.

Coaches coach different ways. Some are very stoic whiles others like Coach Lowe are more passionate and animated. Sometimes Coach Lowes style can rub people the wrong way. Doesn't make him a bad example or a bad Coach. He is a lot like Coach Pearl.

Football is an emotional game. What's wrong with a little emotion. There is a coach in the Knoxville area that shows very little emotion but is cussing his players on a regular basis. Thats something I can't respect. Another thing I can't respect is a school misrepresenting their enrollment so they don't have to move up to the right classification.

As far as coaching changes. Some of the coaches were not ask to return.

Regardless of how good a Coach Lowe is he doesn't have the players to compete.

THEY PLAY EACH OTHER AT HOME FIELDS EVERY OTHER YEAR. ALWAYS HAVE.

I think that was a tongue in cheek post concerning the fact that Powell "lost" a home game during the last reclassification and region realignment. It was Powell's year to host the regular season game, but with the redrawing of the region schedule they ended up having to go back to Maryville instead. That meant it was 3 years between Maryville/Powell games at Powell.

Folks i'm telling you this is not a typical MHS football team they still have to find a running game and they are very suspect at stopping the run that being said they have numerous weapons in the passing game and if either back does get loose not many are going to catch them. Now don't get me wrong i'm not bashing them just stating what i've seen through three games and if anyone can fix it its Maryvilles coaching staff.

now tell me about this coach Lowe from Powell what kind of "antics" on the field are some of you talking about?

For a while because of the name I thought redandblack63 was a Maryville fan then after reading this post I realized you couldn't be then it hit me you are a bitter Central fan ,of course it would be hard not to be bitter after years of getting out coached when you had the better athletes and a 17 point half time lead then just getting your heinies spanked the last few times what i can't figure is how you can make an idiotic statement like "a school misrepresenting their enrollment so they don't have to move up to the right classifcation", and actually believe a school could do this if they wanted to. bottom line is your either a moron or your just on here to stir the pot!!! by the way GQ has way to much class to hang 63 on anybody

any background on these guys? they any good?

Milligan was an all state running back/db at Powell. He still holds the single season rushing record at Powell with over 2,000 as a senior. This is his first year coaching football.

Neely has coached college football and high school football for quite a few years. If memory serves, he most recently coached at Union County High.

Beeler is a young kid, in his first year of coaching. He played at The University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY.

    • Wouldn't the easiest move be to move McCall up to HS Principal and have Gulley take over as MS Principal?
    • Bounder, you are correct. And it is so easy today. As a civilian today, I can check my 6th grade grandson’s grades in real time. 46 years ago as a young head coach, I knew who were my weak students and would do a weekly check. A decade and 1/2 later as an administrator, I would ask guidance for attendance, and grade reports as I did my own discipline reports. 5 years later I could run all those reports in a few minutes. today Text one the Secretaries and they can create a red flag report only printing the names with D’s and F’s or attendance and discipline issues. You are not even dealing with a whole team. The only problem with modern technology is someone who might not want to know.
    • No I didn't,  I just know jellico lost a few and should in playoffs tho....but they have alot coming in the next few yrs
    • The buck stops with the head coach, he should have know if any of his players  were not making the required grades. Either he has someone checking weekly before games and reporting to him or he should do it himself.
    • Freedom Prep has discontinued their football program. These are the teams that were on their schedule in case you are looking for a game:
