BTW, I know that this is a HS site and all, but how are Maury and Jeff Middle doing with their 2 new HC's? Both schools have sent well coached players on to the high school and have dominated that conference for a good while, I`d hate to hear that things were going to change on the middle school with the changing of the guard.

i've heard some familiar faces are on the Maury sideline. any definitive word on the coaches? haven't gotten over to Dandridge to watch them play.

Man, it is good to be back in Tennessee. I have been all over this great country of ours, and I am finally going to get to see Coach Gut in action. I have been kept up to date by DZ through the paper (best job since the "Big Scoop" was writing). I think Jeff will be able to stop those pesky Beavers and win going away. Go Pats!!

Bye the way, well put Heath Helton in the previous post.

My suggested Top 5 spots that all must visit:

1. Napa Valley, CA

2. Lake Tahoe, CA

3. Grand Canyon

4. Anywhere in Montana

5. Niagra Falls

Just my opinion, but we have the most beautiful country in the world. I love to visit all these places, but there is no place like Jefferson County, TN...God's country.

GO PATS!!

I love Tahoe as well.

Back to JC football.... i assume this is your first game of the season. major takeaways from me, a guy who really has no business giving takeaways.

1. we are playing hard

2. way too many mistakes

3. playing hard trumps mistakes

4. once we cut out the mental lapses and begin to execute, we may make a run at the playoffs... big IF-- can't afford to lose more than one more game. even if we go 3-1 to close it out, we are still 3-3 in the region.

4a. great to win the rivalry games (minus Greenville). gets fans and the ole codgers--myself included-- excited and helps build the program. that being said, if we want to play into basketball season and tick Sinard off (jk, we all know he's a supporter of all teams JC and loves the multiple sport athlete) we need to win the region games. playoffs should be the teams #1 goal in getting this thing back on track. i reluctantly say that i would have rather won those first 2 region games vice two of the rivalry games if i had to choose... very reluctant.

5. team speed is below avg

6. huge lack of consistency as a team

overall, i've been pleased with what Gut has done. But Rome wasn't built in a day. Still having growing pains, but he knows how to win, and will eventually do so IMO. with the freshman team we have coming around the corner lets hope its sooner rather than later.

steps off soap box, exits stage left

Can`t speak for the others, but both the 2001 and 04 teams should have made the playoffs, both had .500 or better records, both lost to teams they should not have. This year feels a lot like 04, hopefully there`ll be a different outcome.

I agree about the passing game we just don't have that go to reciever like we had in 04. Tyler Brown was the last go to reciever JC has had and we haven't had anyone put numbers up like him since. I would compare McFall to Houston but it seems that Scooter was a whole lot quicker. McFall needs to find the holes which start at the line and then we will see from there. All I'm saying is lets find a go to reciever!

McFall doesn't have that extra gear like Scooter-- not even close. However, Scooter had speed that won't come around very often. McFall's speed is fine. I agree with a previous post that we are running him a little too much. He's not going to be able to handle that load (20+ carries) for an entire season. Not too many HS RBs can. I do like our 1-2 punch and feel they should both carry the load equally. As far as a go-to WR. We have capable people, namely Stepp. He has the tools. We just need to refine our passing game and EXECUTE.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
