Not sure....but they (BA) may have taken it easy in practice (no disrespect to Coach Jeff Brothers...JPII...BA Alum).......May not have practiced in pads but a day....overlooked JPII for MBA......thinking about their date after the game.......

don't know this for a fact, just speculation on my part, but I would not be surprised if BA spent the entire week prior to the JPII game preparing for MBA. JPII came in 0-6, giving up 45+ pts. per game, and scoring 15/game. They were never a threat, start 7 players both ways, so depth a problem, etc. This could explain JPII popping some big plays and having some early success moving he ball. If I were coach, I would give JPII a quick look/study, but use that practice time to prepare for the MBA game.

I believe MBA will be able to run the ball on BA, they have a lot of talent on that side of the ball. MBA is always prepared, has plenty of great athletes, and play very hard. They have a great coaching staff, and the players just love the new coach. Last year's team was an aberration since they had so many injuries. They realize they are the underdog, so they will be sky high. That being said, BA's defense is just fantastic, and very fast. If MBA has to pass, BA D line will force quick throws, and that has resulted in mistakes for other teams all year. A sack or two, putting MBA in 3rd and long, plays to BA's advantage.

MBA's best chance to pull out a win is to make BA one dimensional and take away the pass. BA QB is young, and has grown a lot over the year, and passing game has struggled at times. Early in the year, other teams loaded up to stop the run game, and dared BA to pass, which they were not very effective at doing. It makes CJ's stats all the more impressive, for so many of his yards have been VERY TOUGH yards, against 8-9 players in the box. If BA QB struggles, then a very close game, very evenly matched. Turnovers/Special teams probably decides game. If BA QB has some success throwing it, BA has a big advantage IMO, the BA's QB has shown a lot of growth in recent games.

This game will be very close

It is a fact that they worked on MBA all that week and very little on JP2. However, JP2 came out hard, executed some plays very well and broke some tackles. I don't care what their record is, they played very hard and sharp against BA.

u need 2 shut up silly goose. we work harder we dont pump as much money as ehs mba and ba do into our program. in fact all the money they put into their programs, they should be on the tippy top of the national hs list. im sorry but father ryan is the best considering the little resources we have

no, you dont work harder at all, come to one of MBAs summer workouts and youll see that immediately. Its not like Ryan is the poor school that has to stretch every penny, so dont try to make it look that way, and anyway, the polls and playoffs arent who's the best with the least resources, it who is the BEST and anyway, you guys are going to lose your next 3 games

just shut up, you dont know what you are talking about, NOBODY has been talking about ryan football, it IS the biggest game in the state, and I guarentee that People from the other schools have worked just as hard, probably harder than the ryan team, but you know, the EHS and MBA Ryan games will finally shut you up.

PS

MBA-28

BA-17

Ihaven't seen BA or MBA but I have seen Ryan and they are very talented.Asto this game being THE game in the state, that is debateable. I for one will be rooting for MBA as will many D1 school fans since BA's lawsuit against the TSSAA.First they didn't cheat, then they had the right to cheat due to free speech issues. Thank God that sanity prevailed in the final Supreme Court decision. To the rest of the state this is a big game only in that we hope BA gets it's comeupance! GO BIG RED.

what are you talking about?? BA's defense is weak, their D-Line is more overrated than Notre Dame last year, their secondary is too aggresive and cant tackle anyone, much less Ben Bartholomew, both MCallie and JP2 ran all over BA's D. Jordan doesnt show up in the first half, and is going to get stripped like none other

You are special. before the jpii game that ba didnt prepare for, they gave up 6 points per game. the d-line has over 40 sacks. their front four will each play for BCS schools. there are few people who say things that are simply wrong, but you are one of them.

Cheat - no cheat - comeupance - whatever. Ryan loses to MBA and BA this year. To quote one of my favorite Maryville fans, "Write it down!".

go back and look at the tapes, smyrna should have won that game, after the QB went down, they ran it right down BA's throat, and BA took it for a series or two, but they cant take it over and over and over like MBA will do all game, Smyrna even had a FRESHMAN FB and he absolutely demolished BA's linebackers, and I would be willing to bet that Ben Bartholomew is a good bit better than Smyrna's Freshman. BA's line stands straight up and is really late off the ball, the proof is in the tapes.

You may be right....we will see tomorrow nite.....

Smyrna's freshman rb (Bryson) will eat many teams lunches over the next 4 years.......that has nothing to do with it......of BA's DL, 4 are 10-11 grade, and 1 is a senior. BA has been known to start 8th and 9th graders as well. If they can play.....why keep them on the sideline....

One of the hallmarks of a top-flight team is that they manage to win even on an off-night. Smyrna may well have deserved to win, and may have played a better game, but it is not a sport determined by judges; it's settled by points, and BA scored more of them.

Of course, I hope tomorrow night they don't score any of them, but that's another matter.

Just curious, how many if any, of those 5 DL are from Una?

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
