The Maryville fans' touchiness about their schedule is comical. In my opinion, they will never get the respect of the rest of Tennessee until they start playing some elite 5A and D-II AA teams and beating them. Until then, many people, including me, will continue to be skeptical. I find it interesting that Maryville is even ranked in the Super 25. Yes, they have won 50 in a row, but who have they played? They are not even in the state's highest classification. Certainly, it is a great program, but why not challenge yourself more. For that matter, why not voluntarily move up to 5A like MBA and BA did in the mid 90's. That might help shut up some of the naysayers like me.

And most Super 13 fans obsession with it is just as comical. There have been 10 threads started on Maryville's schedule in the past three weeks, and in nearly every thread involving MBA or BA, someone is bound to comment on Maryville's schedule. What does it matter?

Take a poll at a Maryville football game and ask most if being ranked 15 by USA Today or 9 by ESPN means anything to them. Most I have talked to will tell you that they don't think they are that good, nor do they care. All they care about is winning the 4A state title. The players might give you a different answer, but what 14-18 year old kid wouldn't think it is cool to be ranked

And for what it's worth, I'm still waiting to hear why BA moved up to 5A after two unsuccessful years in 4A in the mid 90s. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Since when is going 14-1 and 12-2 considered unsuccessful? You have some pretty high standards.

I wouldn't call losing to Cleveland (probably the best team in the state those two years in any classification) in the State Championships as "unsuccessful" years.

Solomon, BA was 2A size when they were playing 4A. They realized that they had powerful teams coming up they and wanted to test themselves in 5A. Maryville has not felt this urge just yet and everyone is happy there, so no problem.

As to why there are so many threads regarding Maryville's schedule, BRBB hit it on the head. Many of the Maryville fans are comical in their defense and it is just good fun to discuss it. Message boards serve many purposes including discussion and entertainment.

BA lost in the Semis in 94 to Haywood Co. but did lose to Cleveland in the final in 93.

You're right, how could I forget, I played in those two games. I think I took too many whacks from Dalton, Flatt, Gentry, and Jacobs /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> 14-1 in 93 - only loss to Cleveland in Clinic Bowl & 12-2 in 94 - losses to Robert E. Lee of Montgomery (9-3) and Haywood 7-3.

Sounds like you were a D line guy, as there is no mention of Patton and Pack in your whacks.

No, I got some from them too (and Bowers before he left /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) I spent time the first half of practice on Mondays & Tuesdays under all their guidance at one time or another.

Schwiering, I left out Bobby Gentry & Wendell Harris too! I earned my red from Coach Bobby - can't leave him out.

I guess Melrose,Central,Hillsboro,Red Bank,Alcoa and MOWest are sorry teams? MBA barely beat Hillsboro. The same Hillsboro Maryville destroyed last year. Alcoa whipped McCallie 2 years in a row. Maryville wears out Alcoa every year.

    • Groves got the ball over 20+ times. His son arguably played the best for East in that game. 3rd and long multiple times and he came up big to continue a couple drives. Please shut up for the 3rd year in a row
    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
