This thread just died didn't it? Don't tell me the only interesting thing to talk about is you know what. Jamboree tomorrow, I don't think anyone is going to show their hand but what should we be looking for? Any favorites for the dunk contest? How about the free throw and the 3-point contest? Here's a good question. Does anyone (including the coaches and players) take this thing seriously anymore? Maybe its time for a change to actually bring some interest back to the Jamboree. Maybe a tourney format and shorten the games? Any ideas out there?

Are the only people posting on this thread parents of DB's JV team from last year? You people are naming off players that nobody has ever heard of. But not only that, you are saying they should start over Sylvester or Edwards?!? Get real. Just because those kids played good during a JV game which is attended by about 30 people made up of a few parents, kids who missed the bus and old people who got tired of watching Mama's House doesn't mean anything. Lets see how they do with crowds like Central and Science Hill riding them the whole game and see how they perform.

In my opinion the conference is even more wide open than it was last year. People want to talk SH and DB up but really they are just going on JV games, summer games and talent that they think they have. People forget DB was mediocre at best last year without Sensabaugh and that was with Throp, so really how good are they going to be without both of them? Same thing with SH, who outside of Omar was a consistent player for them? Lets see how good SH will be without Omar their to bail them out when they can't get anything going.

SH and DB may very well be the best 2 teams, who knows, because like I said there are a lot of unproven players in the conference this year and a lot of new faces for every team.

Here are some players to watch and a quick analysis of each team from my perspective:

Boone (Moncier, Click / Boone played a lot of teams tough last year and a lot of it was because of Moncier almost all by himself. If a few other players step up they could finish high.)

Central (Josh Kaiko, Jason Rock, Patrick Albright / Lost a ton of seniors from last year and one of the leagues best in Hess. While they don't have any returning starters back they have Roberts, Rock and Kaiko who all seemed to play well in big games like SH and DB. Depth could be a problem until some solid young players step up.)

Crockett (I have no idea what Crockett has for this year.)

DB (Sylvester, Edwards, McConnell / Lost 2 of the areas best from last year but have a ton of good players from the best JV team in the Big 9. Depth will be one of this teams strong points as well a plethora of big men who can be interchanged. Nobody in the conference will have the size advantage they have.)

East (Snapp, Barnes, Faver / Probably has the most returning amount of scoring offense in the league. With Barnes and Snapp, East has the league's best scoring tandem, but will East ever be able to finish the season as well as they start them?)

Science Hill (Smith, Adams, Grey / Lost 4 year starter and Georgetown player Wattad but pretty much returned everyone else. Question is are these guys any good without The Omar? Chris Smith was very good at times last year but disappeared in others. This is also a big year for Dionte Grey who has had to play in Omar's shadow for the past 3 years.)

South (Carr, Dick, Tingle / Lost a ton of points from last year from Wringley and Willey. This group of South players was the best in the area 4 years. A lot of questions about who will or will not be playing for them this year. With all the young guys on this team the coach may be seeing this as a rebuilding year.)

TN High (Turnbull, Young / Does it really matter who Coach Witcher has? Whether TN High has a ton of talent or little talent they are going to be tough to play because of the pace of the game they play and the tough zone and matchup defenses they present. This team is almost identical to last years, which talent wise was weak, but they did win the district. They will also have an advantage from previous years with football ending early.)

Volunteer (Cradic, Red headed kid whose name I cannot remember /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> / Lost a lot of key role players from last years team who surprised many. They have a young big kid who could be a nice addition to the proven guards if he has developed. To me the question is will Volunteer's players be allowed to play basketball or will it be another year that Volunteer showcases one player and the coach lets the other guys set "screens" as in the years past.)

My personal projections:

1. Dobyns Bennett

2. Science Hill

3. Tennessee High

4. Sullivan East

5. Sullivan Central

6. Volunteer

7. Daniel Boone

8. David Crockett

9. Sullivan South

And for the poster who previously mentioned the talented freshman at Sullivan East...I agree, he really is that good. I don't know how well he will be able to compete immediatley, but the boy can really play. He will be a definate offensive weapon in the future and possibly this year.

Is that Jordan Cross you're talking about? If so, the kid can shoot the lights out of 3 pointers and never misses a free throw. He's just an all around good kid too!

I attended the jamboree last night, and in my honest opinion, at this point, Science Hill and Dobyns Bennett are on another level. South looked terrible, nobody wanted to dribble and shoot. Obviously everybody is trying to shake the dust off. Hopefully in some of these pre-season tournaments we'll see these kids get into basketball shape and develop the feel for the game and court vision.

I agree, however I think DB is far better than Science Hill. They have some really good shooters, something I don't think Science Hill has. I think TN High will get off to a good start this year as well. They look as though they're already starting to click in their offense. Didn't shoot lights out, but moved the ball really well. Should be another exciting year.

Well??¦I may as well jump in with both feet!

This season teams are cleanly separated into three groups.

Top Contenders (in order):

Dobyns Bennett-State Championship caliber team with their size, talent, and Coach.

Science Hill-always talented; not allot of size; but I guess the biggest question is ???can they just get along?????????

Tennessee High-Deeper than they have been in many years; not many standouts but many solid players that will contribute.

Upset Specialists:

Volunteer-They have Cradic and the Coaching staff has given these kids the will to win.

Sullivan East-Stop Snapp and they are through. But that is easier said than done.

The rest:

Sullivan South-Rebuilding year; need to build excitement to help build the program; losing Reece hurt but was necessary.

Sullivan Central-On the downhill side of the Mountaintop they climbed in 04??™. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Daniel Boone-Click is a good ball player, but does he have help?

David Crockett-I wonder if Tyler Estep has a younger brother? That would be their only hope. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

I was at the Jamboree last night cheering on the Vikes. A lot of surprises if you ask me.

I will put these in order, obviously CAP 1 wasn't there.

1. DB (Looked the best even with players missing.)

THE REST

2. Hill (Everyone says they are 2nd best, but Cougars was leading when Vaughn took out starters, score was deceiving Vaughn had JV players in 2nd quarter, while Cutlip had starters in.

3. Vikes, Sullivan Central, Volunteer. (Toss up)

6. Sullivan East (Was surprised "didn't look very good against Crockett".)

7. Daniel Boone or Crockett (Boone should be better than they looked, Crockett looked OK)

9. Sullivan South (Probably the worst team Sullivan South has put on the floor.)

Please CAP 1 don't make any predictions, If we went by your predictions we (Vikes) would be playing football tonight. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Is anyone going to be able to touch DB this year? They definatly have the team to go through the conference undefeated. Will they? Probably not. But the talent is there. I think the biggest challenge for the coaches at DB this year is to keep everyone happy. Alot of talent, but only one basketball, and only 32 minutes. Other than that they are a well balanced team.

Science Hill is still a question mark with me. I know they are talented, but I just don't get the same feeling with this team as I've had with teams of the past. I don't know, maybe its just me. They will continue to kill most teams with their pressure defense and easy scores. But it will be interesting to see what happens when someone finds a way to beat their press and slow down their break and force them into a half court game. I think a team like TN High will give them a tough time. Could be wrong, but it will be interesting.

Do you even watch the games? Boone's best player by far is Blake Moncier. He was one of the best players in the conference last year. So I would say that Click does have some help.

New year, same Cap1/Cougarfan22/1tshelley.

What games are you referring to? And please don’t say the jamboree or I will have to point you to post #135 again…Vikingfan33…I mean Brock20!! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
