Goodpasture Vs Peabody

After seeing what Alcoa did to DCA, I would be crazy to think GP can hang with them. I do think GP (despite losing to DCA) is a better team than DCA, just as I think CPA was better than DCA. CAK obviously was a very good tema this year. It would have been fun watching them play CPA since both of them had great passing games.

I agree with the advantages above except maybe coaching. Rankin and his staff are awesome, but Coach Martin has done wonderful things at GP for 15 years (3 golds/3-4 silvers). I would call the coaching even, but Rankin has more "hosses".

I will say after watching GP play 3 times, Mayes and Cunningham are as good a backs as you will see at any school any division. They will get some yards against Alcoa, but probably not enough.

I am sure they are very good backs...but I don't think they will do much. Alcoa is just too fast to the corner. A one dimensional wing-t team will not run on them.

I don't think there's a dime's difference between GP...CPA...or DCA. Any could win on a given night...especially at home. I think the scores and where the games were played...bares that out.

I don't think Martin is in the league with Rankin as a coach. I have seen his teams play just about every year. I have been impressed with his players. Rankin has won big everywhere he's coached. Martin started winning when he got to a private school.

Well Peabody fans, I am a Goodpasture fan, and was getting pretty tired of reading all the "pro Peabody" posts this week. But I understand supporting your team, that's great. But you know, confidence is one thing, but you guys really built this Peabody team up to be quite the challenge for Goodpasture - quite the contrary. Harper is good, but he can't do everything all by himself. I admire Peabody's will and desire, but admire Goodpasture's skill, athleticism, speed, confidence, teamwork, and CLASS much more.

Go Cougars, Let's get that yellow ball. We are conquerors, and there's only one more thing to be said about this game - and that is, Action Speaks Louder than Words /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

CLASS... yeah, youre full of something, but it aint class...... GP this was meant specifically for this post... Igot other words for the rest of you!! its good, stay tuned!!

I even put up videos showing the Peabody fans what #22 & #24 looked like running down the side lines and they just laughed.

I will have to say that Peabody has some of the nicest fans and had a lot of class. I think they brought everyone but the mayor and the sheriff. Congratulations on a great season and good luck next year.

Okay, Goodpasture folks,here you go......

Congratulations to you, wow that was a display..... Very impressive display of coaching, football skills, athleticism, SPEED, game plan, facilities, hospitality, and real class by everyone involved that we came into contact with while at CAT COUNTRY!!

Yes CougarBrown, you showed us the video and yes we had seen film of your team, 2 things--speed cant be realized on film and you cant simulate speed in practice.... It was a great trip up yestwerday and great hospitality shown to us by you and your fans.... even the PA announcer at the conclusion of the game had the right words to say and we appreciate it.

Milan fans, get over it.... You werent there, talk all you wish... if you would have beaten Trenton then you could get on here this morning and talk about the what-ifs..... For you and all the other fans from the great schools in AA in West Tennessee... Trenton, Milan, Huntingdon, Westview, Camden, JCS and yeah to an extent you can even throw Humboldt in there, THERE ISNT A NICKEL WORTH OF DIFFERENCE IN THESE TEAMS THIS YEAR... We beat the heck out of each other during the year to get to this point and by golly, what a season it has been for all of us..... THANK YOU PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK!!

As for the postings, well here you go.... ITS ALL BEEN FUN, have loved spoofing it up with all of ya...... We all get on here and say some idiotic things, but thats part of it...... Trenton does have some classless fans, but not near as many as Milan has..... We give what we have recieved....... That is why this morning, HATS OFF TO GOODPASTURE!!

Thanks for your hospitality last night, your fans were great to us all night...... And yes,we did have a great crowd there...same as we have all year long!!

The fans have been there and loud for every game home or away no matter the distance.... It has been great to see the pride and support that the people of Trenton have given these kids and the program.. To the coaches, thank you for your hard work and dedication to this program and these kids, it has been a pleasure to see the work that has gone into this season and the reward of being one of the best 4 teams in the state AA.... To the kids..........WOW,WOW,WOW..... There arent enough words or time to express to you the gratitude for your work, efforts, dedication and class that you have displayed for the last 15 weeks..... About all that can be said is THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!! You have set the bar for future Tide players to work towards and hoefully get to this place as ONE OF THE BEST!! Not just on the field, but your classwork, civic pride, and the way you go about being a TIDEMAN!!

No excuses for the game last night, I feel that the better team won the game...Congratulations to all the area teams for great seasons, congrats to Goodpasture on your continuing season, but most of all THANK YOU PEABODY GOLDEN TIDE.... you done good and we're proud of ya!!

And for the posters about negative things and comments and beat downs for us..... We're done, gotta basketball game to go to next week!! But please dont use this forum to degrade the kids or staffs with crap and especially crap that you have no idea anything about...ie: trouble with the kids or coaches beating up players on the sideline... leave that CRAP out of this.....

Good LUck next week COUGARS, you earned alot (oh wait) a lot of respect last night...

Ditto! Thanks for a heckuva ride Tide Men! Not too shabby for a team that was 5-3 and left for dead a few weeks ago!

Thoughts on GP.........GREAT TEAM, GREAT COACHING, AWESOME FANS, GREAT PROGRAM! Sorry we didn't have anything left for ya after that Milan game, I was affriad that would happen.

I will have to say GP has some of the best fans I have been around at any level of high school football!

Nothing to say to Milan.....why bother?

GL to GP next week, I would love to see ya'll punch Alcoa in the mouth!

I will have to agree with Divepix. Cpa Is probably the 3rd best team in the state. Conner Lowery is the best QB we played against this year. They throw the ball very well. As for the cougars we played our best ball last nite, their was nothing Peabody could do. We had 2 bad games this year one against DCA which we still almost came back and tied, and the Camden game where we were so beat up from playing CPA back to back games, and had several injuries,we were lucky to win that one.Hope the cougars can put another great effort next week against Alcoa, I just dont believe we can hang with all that 4A talent. I mean 2A But stranger things have happened.

Right on Freeacen.

The 'ole yellowbritches just didn't have enough gas in the tank for the fourth round. Wonderful season. Awesome kids, coaches, and fans.

Couldn't think of any other way to end the season with a loss than to lose to what was hands-down a better team. No doubt about it. I would have hated to lose a 24-22 game or something like that where we would have felt there was something we could have done better. It didn't matter what we did last night. Goodpasture was going to win that game.

You know, their #22 and #24 got a lot of attention, but I was particularly impressed with that #30. That kid is obviously in love with the game of football. He had the same effort on every play. Great job.

I would love to see the point where Peabody football gets to the level of a Goodpasture where the fourth round is an expectation instead of a surprise.

Great job kids. On both sides of the field.

I agree with everything said...Goodpasture acted as if this were a regular game to them that they have each season...They were awesome!!!! If everyone claims that Alcoa is 28 and 35 points better than Goodpasture then I'll be in for a BIG SURPRISE!!!!!! I'm going to the 'boro next week to watch all the games and I hope Goodpasture comes up and knocks off the Tornadoes! Good Luck!

Hey GCPioneer, nobody thought Alcoa would beat DCA that bad but they did. What do you think is going to happen if GP gets behind early? I believe they will fold. They need to keep this game close in the first half and they might have a chance. If not, then Alcoa will win by 4 or 5 td. Alcoa again brought the starters out before the 4th quarter of the DCA game. This team won the district GP was in. In my opinion everyone talks about CPA but CAK is the 3rd best team in 2a. Who has played us bettter in 2a? • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
