central being ranked 3 in the state doesnt mean anything. i hope it doesn't go to there heads. the basketball teams get ranked every year, i even think the girls have been ranked 1 before. But central still doesn't have any gold balls. Rankings are just opinions of what people think you can do, they have no reflection on what type of season you will have. hope the chargers take it as motivation and not walk around on cloud 9

Central being ranked #3 this early in the season means nothing. In 2006 the Tigers were 8-0 and were ranked number 3.. Rankings are good moral boosters for the opposing team to want to beat you even more thats about all rankings are good for unless its the BCS.. Especially when our region hasn't won a playoff game since Notre Dame in 2005.. So rankings mean nothing.. Central is good this year and Meigs is down and Central should win even though everyone who loves an upset hopes they lose. Rayl wanted to be on a better team no doubt.. He was happy when he had a great QB in Roberts to throw him the ball and Meigs won the Region and he was happy when he had a running back in Mobriant to hand the ball to and Meadows to throw too last year. Talent is down at Meigs now and he left, Team player I don't think so, but that's a decision he will have to live with for the rest of his life. Hope its what he really wanted and best of luck to both teams Friday, it will be a rivalry but I know Coach Eller has enough class and Control of his team to keep his players from being unsportsman like. Central 28- Meigs 14 .

RegionChamp echos what I think, a good coach will obviously be classy enough to know that promoting hurting a opposing player, especially at this level, would be unspeakable. I don't know any coach that would be able to wake up and live with themselves if they intentially hurt someone.

I think that these kids from Meigs, though not happy with Rayls decision, still care for him. Do I think that Meigs will try to bring it within the confines of the game, oh yeah, they will give all they have.

Yeah, what about that?

How does that work when you've only played two games, neither game being top notch competition?

Just curious.

You are correct that the victories so far are not against world beaters, although Loudon did drill a 1-0 Lenoir City team last week and Oliver Springs was 1 - 0 coming into the game last week. Also the scrimmage schedule may be paying off because coaches and spectators from Alcoa, Coffee Co, Red Bank and So. Pittsburg were very complimentary of the team's effort and abilities. Still there is a lot of football to be played and Coach D stresses that every day to the young Chargers. Focus on each opponent one at a time and the long range goals can be reached. That is what drives the team this year.

Congrats to Central on their ranking. Although I agree that the rankings don't mean much especially this early in the season, it does mean something to the players. It can affect a team two ways. It can either make them think they are invincible and make them a tougher team, or it can make them think they are invincible and become mistake prone because of inflated egos. Central was a good team last year and I think they are out to prove it wasn't a fluke. Central 24 Meigs 6.

I kinda agree with getaclue here, rankings are like jewelry. Sure it is nice to look at, and adds a little flare to ones self, but does not serve a great purpose, except for show. On the other hand, it does recogonize the fact that you have a mentionable ball team. Being notice means something. I too hope that the boys in blue use this as fuel to show why they would be considered, opposed to that nasty monster of the big head. We will see!!!!!

i personally am a sweetwater fan but i would like to ask some of yall's perspective on central i've seen them play and i think them boys can go pretty deep in the playoffs but do you think there lack of strength of schedule will come back to hurt them as it did last year cause they had a great season then got booted out with an early exit to the playoffs....but if they can get good team chemistry the rest the way i think these kids got a very good year ahead of them. Last years game would have been different if we didn't have to play the playoff game with Slack's broken ankle. Tuff kid, imagine what they would have if he was still there.

I believe your right, sometime ranking can make the players think they don't have to try as much, then some team you thought was a push over, bites you.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
