Will be interesting to see what happens. If by week 6 they have 2 losses, you can kiss the playoffs good bye.

Having all of the scoring threats back should help out alot.... atleast we don't play Ooltewah? The one team that seems to be able to stop our run game every time we play them.

They have been capable for the last 3 years. I think that is what many people have complaints about. They have the teams to do it, but when they get in the playoffs they end up back home watching the championship games on tv. We need Ken Sparks back.

ANYONE would benefit from having Coach Sparks. You have to be able to RUN the football (and play defense of course) to win championships. Coach Sparks has lived by that philosophy his entire career. He is also a very fine man.

He also believes in mobility at quarterback. Having to defend all 11 players makes an offense that much more difficult to stop, plus it promotes a big play play-action passing game. I have to admit, I miss the veer at Farragut. Nobody really stopped it for nearly 20 years (give or take a couple of I-formation teams). However I definitely prefer the the spread, which incorporates some veer components, to some of the other stuff FHS has used in the past.

I would love to see Hudson and Purty in a veer backfield. The wide line splits might also help their young OL. Unfortunately Farragut doesn't have the running QB to fully utilize the veer, as a matter of fact Farragut can't utilize him in the spread running game either. What they do have is plenty of WR's to really put pressure on the outside. I hope they can use Van Dyne in the short passing game, and not just to stretch the field. Having so many offensive threats makes calling plays so much easier. The other side of the ball is where most of Farragut's questions will have to be answered. Losing 4 of the 5 starting LB's has got to hurt, plus only 1 of 3 returning on the DL makes this Spring huge for finding replacements.

I agree. I didn't mean to imply Farragut would be better in the veer with current personnel. I do think they have had some teams that would have been better suited to the veer than, well, the staggered I. I just miss those wide splits, backs 1 1/2 off the line, dive, lead veer, and toss sweep.

I think of the Ooltewah game in '07 (and Armanti Edwards at Appalachian State) when I think of the spread running attack. Martland torched them off the QB keep on the zone read. That threat opened up Sterling as well. Nice to be able to attack that C gap with the QB. Like you intimated however, Browning certainly has the skill and receivers to do that in a different way.

Encarnacion will be tough to replace. He was one of the better open-field tacklers I have seen at Farragut, or anywhere else for that matter.

2009 FHS schedule 2009 Farragut Schedule

Week 0: Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett

Week 1: @Oak Ridge

Week2: Knox Catholic

Week 3: Open

Week 4: @Knox West

Week 5: @Riverdale

Week 6: Heritage

Week 7: @Bearden

Week 8: Maryville

Week 9: @Lenior City

Week 10: William Blount

Great Job by Coach Courtney to put together such a tough schedule. I am a little concerned it might be too tough for the Admirals to make a playoff run. But we will see Reese and Van Dyne will be back which helps the offense out alot. Defense is still a ?

My prediction 7-3? with a couple of too close to call games. Catholic, Maryville, @Bearden, Kingsport, @Riverdale

/roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Basically half our schedule is too close to call.

Your Predictions?

Farragut has a tuff schedule but i think they will be a championship team.

I actually think Farraguts D line will be in good shape 2 out of 4 are returning (they rotated in defensive ends) and 3rd kid saw some playing time as well last year so there is a solid 3 that the coaches should already be sure about as starters. At linebacker they did lose 4 out of 5 starters but there were two others who were juniors last year who saw some good playing time and should be able to settle in no problem. So really id say they are looking for 1 or 2 more D lineman and 2 or 3 linebackers. Trust me finding out who is going to play on the O line is much more important right now for farragut.....and finding an O line coach for that matter

Tough schedule...but they were a little afraid to reschedule Ooltewah. I'm sure their quarterback didn't want to see that defensive end in his face all night like he did twice last year.

Now that I think about it, I don't blame Coach Courtney for avoiding the Owls and letting his QB get slammed in the turf all night.

I really don't think the coach thinks this. The new region changed everything. We added Riverdale and DB pretty good teams with good football programs.
