yeah its a little easier to win state championships when the sport is divided into 5 classes. in football, the top 4 teams in the region make the playoffs. once in the playoffs, i believe you have to win 4 or 5 games to win state. in basketball you have 3 rounds in the district, 3 in the region, 1 substate, and 3 in the state tourney.

im not taking anything away from football, but it is easier ti win a championship in football than in basketball.

and by the way siegel hasnt recruited ANY player that is on their roster. not 1!!

You can also lose 3 times in the basketball postseason and still win it all, unlike football. And 4 teams make it out of the district in basketball too. And that last statement is very laughable, I know one they are recruiting right now...but they wont succeed...sorry.

This is a sore spot for me. All these sports have more than one shot at a team. Once you find their weakness and see what works to defeat it, you get another crack at them to take them down. Take OHS this yr in bball.....we lose to Siegel and then got another shot at them. We took them down at the RIGHT time. In football, we have one try at them unless we face them in playoffs. Region games are so important b/c if you lose your chance at them in regular season, you might completely miss playoffs b/c of it. I hate the format in baseball and bball. You have a bad game and you get ANOTHER day. So not fair.

Well put 2p

In all the sports it is hard just to win a state champ. You all have kids banged up due to basketball and baseball which you get 2nd chances but you have to turn around and play the next day or after, in Football you usually have a full week to get better. So what im saying it all weighs out at one point.

Basketball has a horrible format which takes many games.

in the end everything is fair /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

All I am saying is that it sounded self serving. Hey, like I said, I have no dog in this hunt. I do believe that King is a legend in high school like Bear Bryant was to college football.

i know the coach at morristown east well. very great coach, name is mike wright. started at pigeon forge high school. i cant believe his name came up, thats very interesting. and this past year was his 2nd at morristown east

May I ask whats so hard to believe about his name coming up. Look at his record at Morristown East, his team made an extraordinary improvement in their 2nd year.

He did the same thing at Pigeon Forge. I am not sure why the other poster thought it was strange. Maybe it was his age (very early 30's), or maybe because East is going to be good for a few years. He worked very hard to turn around a historically bad program, had to be hard to leave. Talking to people around, he seemed very happy at east.

    • Why? Low pay. Low budget thanks to the Rotary milking the programs revenue. Foul smell. There are other negative things... Positives: the players and being toward the top of the classification numbers wise.
    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
