LaVergne's Hester resigns

Any ideas on who the frontrunner is for what is likely to be the hottest opeing of the Spring? I heard that Yancey Thigpen called over and talked to the AD but don't quote me on that. Here is what I hear coming out of LaVergne

1. Shadowens had coffee with Hester at the Chruch street Shoneys.

2. Coach Long from LMS threw his name into the hat with a strong outing this year, plus he co-authored the Tony Franklin "Nascar" offense.

3. A dark horse here would have to go to a relative unknown named Coach Duggin. Fresh from the halls of MTSU, this up and comer has a lot to offer but may be a bit overwhelmed with the task of heading up the LMS baseball team this year, may conflict with Spring workouts adn such.

I'll try to keep y'all posted.

Coach Capella would be a great fit at LHS but I think he is too busy with his teaching responsibilities at LMS. Has he officially applied or is this speculation? Because of his dynamite teaching ability, he would be a tremendous asset to LaVergne High School. That would be a tough loss for LMS. Good luck, Doug.

Now look, first of all most coaches, at least those who are worth a nickel know that your either a teacher or a coach. You can't be both. These rumors of Capella are absurd. Other than being a d-coordinator at Lancaster Christian, he really hasn't put the time in to be a head coach. A guy you really have to look at is Stephen Crutchfield. Cruchfield mastered the intricacies of the culinary arts so quickly that he surely could handle the complexities of the spread offense if he so chose to run that. He may coach barefoot (which has yet to be confirmed) but there is no doubt that he would right the LHS ship!

My son is a player on the Lavergne team, and that Crutchfield guy is the name he said he keeps hearing as the replacment. Word is Hester has been grooming him for the job. I think he would make a great fit. Just look at what he did at Lavergne middle school with these same kids!

I cant believe that the job would already be offered when it has not been posted yet. Also I cant believe it would be offered to a middle school get back coach. Is that really the best that they can do? Who is this guy and what has he done to supposedly been offered this job?

Well if you met this guy (Capella), you would understand why it was offered to him even though it hasn't been posted. He is a fantastic teacher at LMS, and a GREAT coach. He gets a lot out of his O-Line and D-Line and that's what LaVergne High is lacking right now. He's been at LMS for only 2 years, but he's a mastermind.

He's a great speaker, and can fire anyone up.

If he doesn't accept the job, and I heard that he more than likely will...I heard that he may decline the job to take Siegel's opening.

Last, if Capella doesn't accept, Long will be a great hire as well. He is the Steve Spurrier of Rutherford County football and will take the Wolverines to the next level.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
