Yes they can as LaVergne DOES have atheletes. The Principal is very supportive, but if it requires the Superintendants support do NOT count on it as he is a Smyrna alumni and good friends with a Head Coach at another school. Do NOT ask me what I think of the Super as he and I graduated together and we had our differences then. I will say he left our last 'discussion' bleeding and bruised though.

Two of the very best that have ever played in Rutherford County 'SHOULD' have been playing there instead of Smyrna. Remember the "Sonny and Rod Show"?

My biggest question is who is actually going to make this hire? Rumor going around the county is the replacement was already picked BEFORE the ex Coach resigned. According to the 'RUMOR' this is going to be a purely PC pick to bring the coaching ranks of Ruthorford County in to the 21st Century. Unfortunatly I do NOT think Rutherford County can afford Tony Dungy. dry.gif

'IF' we could get one for what we pay I would say GREAT, but unfortunately this maybe another 'Metro' hire.

I failed reading between the lines 101, the RUMOR you heard is that the hire will be a minority coach??? I have not been in this area all my life but to my knowledge Rutherford County has never had one at the high school (head coach) ranks....????....

allabouttheO, evidently you DID pass reading between the lines 101. The 'rumor' is the next coach WILL be a minority and just because Rutherford County has NOT had a minority head coach. There is a coach from Rutherford County who is qualified on ALL counts in Ricky Field, but I do not know if he even put in for consideration. "Rumor' is it is going to be a hire from Metro though.

I guess when you say that R.C. has NEVER had a minority head coach you mean recent history. Coach Leo Martin is African American last I checked and he was the first head coach ever at Lavergne.

A. True, but how long did he last?

B. Much different political climate now also.

My source was not specific as the deal has NOT been finalized yet.

Thompson played at Hillwood. Phillips coaches there. Either way, there will be a Hillwood connection.

Interesting. Not sure why, but interesting anyway.

(Maybe because their rollercoaster at Hillwood of being good and then not good and then good and then not good and then mediocre followed by...well you get the picture...Lavergne can relate to that in football by now)

My guess is Thompson from Maplewood if it is truely a metro coach. Thompson's name came up here before when Hester got the job. I really dont see Mose going out of metro for a second time. He has already left once to go to Centennial and then came back. Thompson has been successful at Maplewood but can he compete in arguably the toughest district in the state. My guess is he wont have nearly the athletes, not taking anything away from La Vergne's athletes but the wood was always loaded with huge lines and talented backs. Should be interesting if it is him.

    • Why? Low pay. Low budget thanks to the Rotary milking the programs revenue. Foul smell. There are other negative things... Positives: the players and being toward the top of the classification numbers wise.
    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
