I keep getting this mental image of Shelbyville's student section sitting across the gym with halos on their heads singing hymns. I have been to many a SCHS vs. LCHS ballgame and heard as bad or worse taunting from their side. What I guess I am saying is that mouthing and taunting have gone on for a LONG time on BOTH sides.

As a parent of a hard-working athlete, it takes everything within me to be still and quiet at a game where students of the opposing team are riding your son or daughter. I would like to give a shout out to all the players everywhere who have heard the taunting and played through it even though it was extremely difficult to do. They are the real heroes to me. Countless hours of practice, sweat, and pain are poured into every team's season; it seems a shame to me that they have to endure what I would say is verbal abuse when all they ever want to do is play a game they love for a school they love. Getting off my soapbox now.....

SCHS2010, I have enjoyed reading all of this tonight. You are one of the few people that has been posting on this that you can have a sensible conversation with. You have been open minded and I thank you for that. I hope that we do all move past this and it works out. I believe that all things happen for a reason for something else to happen better down the road. Thank you again SCHS2010.

you're welcome, i'm just trying to clear anything up that anyone would like to know concerning schs that i'm aware of..without arguing because i feel like arguing isn't going to help.. just make it worse than it already is. we have more games left and hopefully people will be sensible and mature. Tullahoma was pretty respectful the other night and I was surprised considering all this happened.

[quotfballfan101"]I am glad to hear SCHS changed the seating. I noticed while I was there that SCHS fans actually sit all over the gym. As a matter of fact Andrews family was behind me on the side I assumed was the visitors. Now for my question, has Andrews ever been in trouble. School or outside school trouble. Has he had any technical fouls, bad attitude, etc..??

i've gone to school with emmanuel all throughout high school and he's never been in any kind of trouble in or outside of school that any of us are aware of. As for technicals he might have some, but i mean even some of the best players display a bad attitude when they feel a bad call was made, etc. He's a really good kid in and out, works hard at everything he does.. that's why everyone is defending him so much, because we feel he would never just do any of this upon himself.

By upon himself do you mean taunting from the fans made Andrews take action?

i'm not saying taunting directly.. but a student did provoke him otherwise he wouldn't just jump in the stands and fight. like i've said SO many times through out this thing we've lost before in that gym and we've had may student sections right where they were sitting and nothing like this has EVER happened.. so why would he just want to jump in the stands and hit people that night?

Very true, but that's just what the LCHS student section does to even the greatest players. We are loud, proud, and LOUD! During the Columbia last night we had a ref actually say and I quote "WOW ya'll are loud". We of course all said thank you :thumb: . But we get in a player's head and make them make mistakes. Most of it is in fun, we make jokes either how a player looks, runs, shoots, anything to get in their heads. We apparently went too far with Andrews. That plus the loss drove him to take action I believe. Sure knowing our student section words were most likely exchanged before the first fist flew, but that's apart of basketball or any sport trash talk happens.

this altercation was nowhere near our student section..and our sro officer kept them in the stands. At our meeting at school about all this our student section was bragged upon for staying in the stands and not running across the gym to get involved. i get that same image about Lawrence County's student section when they say that they had nothing to do with this altercation.. it's actually a joke at school about how Lawrence County is full of angels..get real we both taunt and we both yell.. but the only difference is that we know how to leave the gym when a game is over and end the taunting there. Emmaunel has played basketball all four years and has put up with taunting since middle school, so again..why would he lash out now unless he was provoked..

I haven't read where anyone denied ragging on Andrews. This takes place during most games. You dog on the person in the best position to hurt you on the scoreboard. In many ways it is a compliment to be singled out. May not be right but it happens all the time. If you were seated in the SCHS student section, I'm sure you will remember that it was mutual. The question is should Andrews have gone into the stands and hit a student?

You are right fan64 about this going on for a long time but there are many other things that the older group like myself do not realize that has changed some. There is FACEBOOK and MYSPACE now an all this trash talking going on. These kids talk this crap online now and have to listen to this pretty much year around. Who knows, maybe some of what happened has been brewing for a while. Just a thought I would through out there.

Thanks for the answer. I hate that this has happened and I am not sure the correct punishments are being made but people of SCHS needs to support Andrews now more than ever. I am looking forward to see how he handles this setback but he should be fine if he is as good a person as you claim. Kids need to understand that technical fouls are not good. Not to say it had anything to do with this incident but it may have. I am sure you are right about the taunting but as an athelete I am sure he has heard this type stuff before also. I hate to blame the coach but he should have been there for his players in that situation and got them into the locker room instead of getting involved with the refs after the game and then the incident with the cheerleader. I am not saying he is a bad person but I do feel like he let his team down that night by losing his cool. Sometimes a coach getting a technical is a good thing and actually sparks his team but the one after the game was just plain dumb. I just hope lessons are learned on both sides and both sides can move on.

I've been trying not to jump in here, but the Shelbyville coach was going to stop and stand between the fans and his team when some unidentified SRO from LCHS (not in uniform) grabbed him and pulled him away so he could not.

It's unfortunate what happened and it should have all been avoided.

From the first day I met E all he wanted to do was to play basketball... Thats it...Not fight but play basketball...

But a terrible thing happened last friday night that will take away the rest of his senior year and the kid will never get that back...

As for you LCHS... shame on you for fabricating the truth so the best player in the district has to sit..Argue all you want but i know about 95% of what happen,

And no dooleydaffy, everything that has been written on here has been about 20% correct...

I was wondering where all the post from the schs people were when the fighting topic came out but i just found out why... a little bias i believe...

And the statement of only 9 fans came charging the floor, well even LCHS would have to disagree with you on that one..

I have enjoyed watching E play in several games and being the best player on the floor he has taken a lot of critisim and never onced was provoked enough to punch someone...So when I say it was in total self defense i know it was in total self defense...

You had Coach Thomas pinned up against the wall when you should have been watching the kids, and KT should have been escorting his kids to the locker room... But neither one of those things happened cause well...both were busy doing other things...

But LCHS you got your way two years in a row by getting two of the best players suspended...and you say you are good sports????

    • Yeah I am on board and plan on coming down from the Ridge for some home games, great Friday night atmosphere there.  I'm really hoping SC can get them back going and have some success for those fans and community.
    • Yep I was field level on the scoreboard end throwing ball with Benny when we had that brief lead. Everybody got very excited but it was short lived as Murvil regrouped and went into machine mode. But yeah,  that hit sounded like the crack of a black powder rifle being fire.  I believe Dozier took one like that as a Soph up at Greeneville after on olay block.
    • Ole Benny boy lol. I forgot about Harder. He was tough as crap. He graduated in ‘09. I went to the OR/Maryville game that year (great game, btw) and he collided with Jacob West (I think was his name) and you could hear it clearly at the top of the visitor bleachers. Man, it was a stick. He could lay some wood son. All those guys were tough, Elliott included.
    • They do have good community support for sure and did when I coached under Z for 4 years. (I was on that staff that turned them around a little from winning 1 game a year to actually being competitive).  Great Kids and Great Community over there.  They have done some good things with the facilities from when i coached too.
    • I personally will not mind that one bit.  It seems like a really strange fit to me from the git go.
