osunut2
Maryville 21 West 24 Bold pick. They've got a great defense, but I just don't think West has the offense to beat Maryville. Maryville wins, 28-10.
FBEmeritus
Maryville will hang 40 on West this year. West does have a quality QB, but may not have the time to throw it more than 10 yards and they won't have enough yards on the ground to move the ball. GQ really did not throw the skin much vs. alcoa, did not have too, but really did not show anything there. Thing I would like to see improve for MHS is Kick coverage and LB's stepping up and plugging the holes. The LB's seemed to play off the line on Alcoa and that allowed more yards up the middle than previous Jimmy G teams IMHO. MHS did not punt but that kick off run back was a mess. I expect GQ and Co. got that fixed this week. 42-10 MHS
ORidgeKat
West has a good defense, but great is a little much for this young team this early in the season. Plus, they haven't played against an offense anywere near as good as this Maryville offense.

Special teams do seem to need some work. This early and teams have a lot to work on. Bottom line: play Maryville football, win the game. Go Rebels! plumb69
Another reason to love Blount County. This morning at 6 I'm sitting in a barbershop, one block from Shields Stadium wearing a Rebel tee shirt and the dude in the chair beside me is decked out in his Alcoa garb and the only talk is football. Tonight both teams go in district play, time to start the drive to two more gold balls for Blount County. Time to walk to the stadium. GO RED REBELS!!!!!!!!! plumb69
About as ugly as a 30-7 win can be. Offense looked out of sync for Maryville, one of the interceptions Patton threw looked like the one against Alcoa. Maryville defense looked stout except for the scoring drive but had at least three offside penalties. I can't remember the last time I thought Maryville's special teams were outplayed but I thought West did it tonight. West's defense made some big plays but still gave up thirty to an offense that wasn't clicking. A win is a win but will the coaches and team get a lot of satisfaction from this one? A win is a win but will the coaches and team get a lot of satisfaction from this one? I think it all depends on how good West turns out to be. If West goes 9 and 1, I think you have to feel pretty good about this one. What Alcoa did to Loudon makes me feel pretty good about last week. But I do hate the turnovers, no matter what the end results are!
RunninRebels
I'd venture to say West won't lose another game this year. However, they will be light years better at the end of the year. I know every team gets better as the season progresses, but West just seems to drastically improve themselves much more than everyone else. Maryville wouldn't have beat West by more than a 6 or 7 points at the end of last year (I know RR.....imagainary loss 200,458 ), but they destroyed West 35-6 at the beginning of last year. Maryville should be happy with the win.

Maryville improves as the year goes on also .
