Maryville vs. Riverdale

Riverdale beat SIX 6A playoff teams, one 4A team still playing and one 5A team still playing as well as the #4 team in Kentucky in St. X. The only team they beat regular season that did not make the playoffs was LaVergne who finished at 3-7 but managed to defeat CAK.

Maryville defeated only three 6A playoff teams during the regular season, one 5A team that is still alive (West), 3A Alcoa who was WAY down this year and poor Knox Webb who finished 9-3 in DIIA.

Sounds like riverdale should be givin murvil about 8 points. I hope murvil can cover that spread.

I do agree that riverdale is more battle tested because they have likely played some close games this year - murvil has not.

This may be the first game where our qb has a little pressure on him. By pressure, I mean a close game and some important drives because we need points. It will be interesting to see how he reacts. He is our most experienced skill guy. It is sometimes odd to see a soph and fresh in the backfield with him, along with a soph and jr wr on the field. We still play alot of young players. How will they handle adversity? Hopefully, they won't have to!

Riverdale needs to keep it close until halftime. I still say Murvil - 21 and Riverdale - 7.

Here you go folks, our local newspaper finally has printed a story about the game...

Enjoy!

Maryville paper pulls reporter away from swim team story to write a story about the football team...

Paul Fortenberry is a Rebel (class of 05 or 06 I think). You can hear him on the Sports Animal as a guest. He was working for VolQuest.com.

I am always asked by fans in front of our press box for my prediction. Being raised on the Paul Bear Bryant TV Show my answer is always the same: "I hope we just show up and don't embarrass our mamas and our papas..."

Headed to the school to load up the trailer. Hope everyone has a safe trip. StarsNBars and MHS82 and Maryville folks - please come over and say hi!

I have one of these new fangled phones so I can coacht on the road... and not driving so looking forward to more comments about the game....

Hope all Riverdale fans enjoy the trip, the food and the game! It won't even bother me if my Rebels get beat by the Warriors. I actually would like to just see a close game. At times this year it has been joyously boring.

A little word of caution to the Warrior faithful might be in order. "The Black Hole" can have a psychologically depressive downward spiral effect on folks sitting on the visitor's side of the field. Some just don't know the power of the darkside until it is too late. Beware these often observed symptoms!

Anticipation and Confidence then Surprise- "Wow! the rebs scored pretty fast there...wait til we get the ball"

Shock- "I can't believe they got that pick for a touchdown!"

Dismay- "Man they just stuffed our best running back...oh well, we just have to settle down and play our game"

Despair- (When they hear "Touchdown Merryville!") "I can't believe they let that reciever get behind them"

Blame- What is the coach thinking? I can't believe the ref didn't see that late hit? C'mon zebra he's holding, are you blind?

Annoyed - "I hate that Notre Dame fight song!

Justification- "If ***** was healthy this would be different! We are just down this year, if we had played them last year we would have killed 'em!

Halftime

Upsmanship - "At least our concessions are better!"

Bargaining - "Let's just keep from gettin' Mercy-ruled. You bet! They can't mercy-rule us!"

Acceptance - "Well, beating us like this proves they are the best team in the State."

Hope - "We'll get 'em next year!"

Final Justification - "If we could have used our Cowbell's it would have been different!"

Haha I loved all Of that.. I can't say I've felt like that in a riverdale game since 03:. But yes I definitely experienced all those highs and lows back then!

Now on the other hand all the MJ And whitehaven people in the other thread have their heart set on playing Maryville next week, I wouldn't want them to be dissappointed. Lol nevermind , I'd love for them to be disappointed if riverdale pulls it off. Haha I'm about to get on the road!! This will be a great road trip!

I had a dream about this game last night. I was locked up somewhere and I couldn't see the game and it had already been played and I kept asking people for the score and no one knew it and I started crying. Yeah that was random I know! Lol

Then I woke up and realized I'm not locked up...

I don't believe I would have told that. I think this is the first time I have ever seen the term, "Then I woke up and realized I'm not locked up", used on Coach T. :roflol::thumb:

Lol, I was actually locked up in someone's back yard.. Kind of like the whole Jaycee Duggard thing. I wasn't in jail but whatever it was caused me to not make it to the game. I'm relieved to say I'm on my way now to the game so that can't be true!!

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
