Maryville vs. Riverdale

I agree...Our kids and opponents deserve a bettur playing surface...After walking on the field it seems to me there is very little sand in the center and the topsoil/clay just holds the moisture with no drainage because of the lack of sand.....But I have heard rumors of the field being addressed after the season..Let's all hope thats true and would be glad to donate to such a cause...

Also '82 I noticed UT's field looked subpar against Vandy.....

Where have you gone Bobby Campbell and Dr. Tom Samples????.....

Now Stars...Are you really in favor of a mud-free football game? To me, I don't think you have played football nless there is a little mud in the facemask. I do think we need better field conditions than we had this year.

Thanks for the classy remarks diggerdog. No doubt about it - the field condition is pitiful. I think there must be an arrangement somewhere between someone in Maryville's administration and his/her cousin that maintains the field. Not sure why the field seems to never get better after all the money that is put into football at Maryville. That field is a joke but the only ones that don't see it are the people defending it.

There is basically $0 put into the field. Joe has a lawn mower and sometimes some seed. That being said the field was not that bad last night. There were very few slips & neither teams' players had problems cutting. I guess the field condition did cost Winders (TE) a TD. If Maryville fans want a better field then the easiest thing to do is keep the band / middle school / midgets / peewees / etc. off the field during football season. Maryville is averaging 8-9 home varsity games (plus the Freshmen & JV) & it is unrealistic for the field to be pristine with so much use.

Bottom line: Riverdale's coach set up the field condition excuse early in the week & now the Dale's are harping on it.

Stars. I think field conditions are related to yas mascot. Ya are in East Tennessee. There were about as many rebels in murvulle as jazz players in Utah or Rams in St Louis. Lol. Ya have a different growing season and topology. Black hole is great example of topology. Not good for cotton and not best for football. I remember Memorial Stadium in Baltimore years ago. Talk about lack of grass. And about as many rebels as Maryville. That is my historical thesis. :)

That is kind of my point warhawks. Not that it matters to any of us because we Middle Tn folks only play on it one time per year if we are lucky. I would have thought that a program as good as thiers deserved to play on a better home field each week. When you win as many state championships as they have in any sport or school I would expect the facilites to be a reflection of that success. Stadium is pretty nice and I like the whole Black Hole thing. Field not so much. Just my opinion which in the big scheme of things means nothing.

Just an idea! That would be cool if they installed black field turf in the black hole! Kinda like a few of the colleges have their turf like their school colors! :thumb:

As it's been said, Maryville doesn't take a knee for injured players. And I'm glad we don't. The whole practice is Parks & Rec-ish.

If I remember correctly, this caused quit the stir @ WBHS a few years back, which is even more reason to not take a knee

Not all William Blount fans believe that you have to take a knee. I was so embarrased that night when grown ups were yelling "TAKE A KNEE' to the Rebel players while the player lay injured on the ground. I guess that "what" is respectful is in the eyes of the beholder. My kid got in trouble for saying "Yes" instead of saying "Yes Sir" to one coach and for saying "No" instead of "No Mam" to a teacher. I would bet that some of the Maryville faithful who say we won't take a knee to anybody would be the first to take issue with someone(like my child) not saying "Sir" or "Mam".

Congratulations Maryville on another trip to State. We'll be pulling for you.

    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
    • Oh yeah, I’m sure you are different people just always on the same thread for some reason, always agreeing with each other, perhaps just a bunch of dorks who would like to ###### and moan about high school football coaches do a lot of other students, so you make a football team and get a yell at them. When they do something wrong, but I’m sure you don’t like that, do you?   and I’m sure I’m aware of where you get information. A teacher who was on the coaching staff but was fired after the new coaching and staff came in and realized he actually had to start taking his assistant job a little bit more seriously than just wanting to make a little extra cash on the side, hardly even showing up to most practices, should’ve left with his buddy to go to Farragut. I’m sure he could get him a defensive coaching job, but I doubt he will be there in three years. Looking at the way Farragut is currently going.
    • It may be hard to believe but there’s more people than me that think you guys are a bunch of losers.    I’m sure the coaching staff, yourself included, cursed at a bunch of high school students. Nobody could name more than 3 coaches on staff due to the constant turnover.
