Personally I love Oregon ducks field. How the green alternates, with the light and the dark it's just so pretty...

 

 

I will say what was very amusing about warm ups is the bushes behind the goal post.

Haha did yall keep seeing the riverdale players going in their looking for the balls. At first I thought it was weird but the more and more they did it.. I started laughing.

I know y'all can't help the bushes/trees but it was fun to watch!

I'm old school too , but if we have to play on this bad of a field anymore I would gladly do my part and contribute money towards new Field Turf . I do think it's a shame that Maryville Football has given so much to our community , but some people on the School board seem to think that Maryville Football doesn't deserve anything back in return . The fact that the Football team Striving for Excellence has translated into striving for Excellence in the Classroom also , seems to have been overlooked by some of these Board members .

 

Coach Quarles and this Football team deserve the very best facilities in this State , anybody who thinks what we have is in proportion to our Football team needs to go to either Greeneville , Kingsport , or even Science hill in Johnson city and check their facilities out .

That is a good idea and would look pretty cool with the Black Hole name. Sure would beat the blue turf at Boise State.

 

Personally, I am a fan of the grass fields. However, a black field would be pretty cool, except in August and September...it would be 200 degrees.

Stars. I think field conditions are related to yas mascot. Ya are in East Tennessee. There were about as many rebels in murvulle as jazz players in Utah or Rams in St Louis. Lol. Ya have a different growing season and topology. Black hole is great example of topology. Not good for cotton and not best for football. I remember Memorial Stadium in Baltimore years ago. Talk about lack of grass. And about as many rebels as Maryville. That is my historical thesis.

 

The Maryville Rebels nickname, I have been told, actually came from an argument with the TSSAA. I don't remember all the details, but I believe that Maryville was at one point the Fighting Red Elephants. Then there were some eligibility issues with players or something to that extent and Maryville wasn't allowed to play. Due to that Maryville rebelled against the system and became the Maryville Rebels. It doesn't have anything to do with the civil war or anything to that extent.

 

I am sure others here might remember the details better than me and can clear it up, but the point is that it our nickname came from our own doing. haha
