1990, 1991, 1992, 2010, 2011 Powell. 90 went undefeated in Regular Season , but lost in the Second Round to Gatlinburg Pittman. 91 lost to Brentwood Academy in the State Championship Game. 92 lost to Marion County 7-6 in the Semifinals. Marion County went onto beat Brentwood Academy in the State the following week.

1996 Halls- undefeated til the State vs Pearl Cohn. Buck Fitzgerald, John Henderson & Santonio Beard were the top players for Pearl Cohn.

1997 Maryville- same as Halls. John Henderson dominated that game.

That 1996 Halls team was really impressive.

Still hard to believe that Powell didn't get one between 1990 and 1992. That GP loss in the '90 playoffs was a shame because they dominated the same GP team during the regular season (much like the 2010 playoff loss to AC). Marion County and BA were always very tough outs during the late 80s and early 90s. Always a difficult challenge in high school to take down talented teams that have been there before, when you haven't.

The 1994 Powell team was a good one as well. Matt Lowe's injury in the '94 state quarterfinals against Cherokee was a shame, although I don't think they would have beaten Cleveland in the semis (with or without him).

Melrose would have beaten Maryville that one year if they would have quit throwing up bomb after bomb and instead handed the ball off to the stud they had a TB that ended up playing at Miami. Poor coaching and play calling....what's new.

I don't think so because when he did get the ball he was -40 + yards.

Best football team to not win a state title? I'm going with every Franklin High School team thatbever played. They get predicted by their own to win a state championship every year, but somehow never do. They must be tired to getting robbed for all these years. :roflolk:

Sounds a little like Portland high school hahaha

    • When she starts farting around with the football team the powers in Maryville will run her out of town on a rail and everyone connected with letting her in the door. You saw what happened when Alcoa's radio announcer thought he was coming to Maryville, the people rose up and stopped it.
    • 20 but had 5-6 not dressed every game. It went down towards the end due to injuries and obviously only 15 got to dress for the state tournament. Then, they only lost 2 from this year and gain 8 from the middle school for next year
    • As somebody mentioned before, this is going to result in a massive lawsuit, can you imagine professional "educators" actually having the conversation about getting "the bad kids" out of the high school?  And the head coach asking directly to change grades, gets turned down, comes back again and gets it approved?  This is unbelievable.  In addition to the lawsuit, the state Department of Education is going to come down extremely hard on this.  WYSH is on the war path.  There could be dozens more lose their jobs by the time this is over.  And yeah the real shame is the kids being affected that literally had nothing to do with this and actually worked hard to earn their grades.
    • I've heard Powell from someone who talked to him. I saw the kid two days ago and I should of pulled over and talked with him and wished him well where ever he goes. It will be a ale of a loss for us because I don't believe we have anyone in the stable good as him from what I seen in the spring.
    • I would have to think that the firing of the 2 teachers is just the beginning of future moves.  If not, it is woefully short.  If the AC school board thinks that the damage is just limited to Clinton, they are sadly mistaken.  Any outsider would view the whole school system as suspect, and rightly so.
