How many region one wrestlers wrestle in the off season exactly? It doesn't seem like many.

Depends on to what extent you want to consider true offseason work. Many wrestle a couple folkstyle tournaments after the season. A few will wrestle freestyle and greco tournaments. After that there are maybe a couple that wrestle up until the season in out of state tournaments.

ETWA and Team Tornado provide many opportunities for kids to go wrestle big tournaments against great competition. ETWA had kids go to OH Tournament of Champions, Super 32, and state and Southeast Regional Freestyle/Greco. Team Tornado had teams in Dixie Duals and Militia Duals and then also had kids in freestyle/ greco state and regional tournaments. Not enough local kids take advantage of these opportunities.

To answer simply: Not as many as do in Chattanooga. Not even close.

ETWA will be going to those same competitive offseason tournaments this year and will also be teaming up with Abingdon VA to put "All Star" teams together to travel to the team tournaments such as Militia, Dixie Duals, NHSCA Nationals, etc.

We are striving to make the area better. But we cannot do anything if the kids don't show up. We need parents, coaches, and kids alike to take initiative during the offseason.

Update on Frye vs Cline and begley vs broyles.. Frye beats Cline 8-6 and begely pins broyles in a controversial match

Frye pinned Cline with one second left...the ref clearly indicated the pin came before the buzzer. Score was 7-4 Frye when the pin occurred.

Not sure what the controversy was at 152.

Team score was 69-6 D-B...perhaps a somewhat misleading score as MW forfeited five matches and D-B one.

    • I have no clue if Derek tried to talk some since into his dad or not about staying here. All he is going to accomplish is going from the oven to the frying pan. If I were the coach all Ale would freze over before I set back and watched one of my good players leave without a fight.
    • If this is true, South Gibson is taking a big chance. Passing on an experienced coach for a guy who has never coached at the high school level is a high risk move, especially in that district and region.
    • Dorian Eskridge was HVA's best back, 2011
    • Jo Byrns was a very solid team last year. Imo, I thought they presented the biggest challenge for us on our path to winning it all last year. I expect them to be in the conversation and one of the final few teams playing in Murfreesboro
    • I'm not sure you understand anything if you think DB's career and AD's career are comparable.  This is a terrible take.   Not to slight AD, He was a good player and he got better as he matured after high school.   But Desean had over 8,000 yards in HS and was a two-time Mr. Football.
