Oak Ridge 2014

Just got back from the Freshman scrimmage.  I thought our guys made a good showing in spite of the scoring.  The scrimmage format was a 10 plays offense/defense rotation.  We had 3 good chances to score and failed each time.  Our score was our 3rd team O against their 3 team D at the end of the scrimmage.  The biggest advantage that Maryville had was at the center position.  We have a lot of work to do with making the long snap crisp.  It really affected the timing of our offense.  I don't know many of the players, but considering that we are combining 2 teams together, they played pretty well.  The defense was tough, but gave up about 5 plays that were huge for the Rebels.  However, we had some long runs as well.  All in all, both teams got in some good work.

Neil what do you think of the thought of combining Jefferson and Robertsville? Do you not think that would help out the cohesiveness of the guys when they get to HS? I know Maryville has one Middle School (Jr High) and so do a lot of other schools. I know WB recently went to one altogether. I doubt it would ever happen, but I think it would be better for the kids when they got to HS.

It should have been done a long time ago.  I would have built a brand new HS and combined the MS on the old campus.  Definitely a plus for sports.

I think so too. I definitely think it hurts us. These kids at the other schools have already been playing with one another for 3+ years, while half our ours were rivals. I think it would help tremendously myself.

I really do hope this kid makes it at OR! If he does and that team can hold it together, I really think they can make some noise come playoff time!

    • Jason Lambert should be the only choice for the Baseball coaching position.
    • From the stats I found online it looks like Gabe Eddington- .484, 44 total hits, 43 runs scored and 42 stolen bases.Meanwhile, on the mound, the Austin Peay commit had a record of 8-2, while compiling 50 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.82. Carson Parrott - 7-0 overall as a starting pitcher with a 1.41 ERA, 95 strikeouts and a save in 53 and 1/3 innings pitched. Parrott hit .392 with 3 home runs, 21 RBIs with a .566 OBP and .716 SLG. Jaxon Walker - .454, 53 hits, 38 RBI’s, 9 HRs.   Not saying the other three aren’t deserving but Quillen had better BA than all three and was just as dominate pitching.  Like I said I don’t know how you leave off the 3a Baseball player of the year last year when he put up better numbers.  I know Greeneville’s Coach wasn’t happy about it saying “I don’t give a s*** what anybody else says. That kid is the best player in Tennessee, and everybody else on our team rises to his level“.  I’m sure winning another State Championship as a junior is more important to Carson than the individual award, it’s just a head scratcher to not be nominated
