Great game.It's a shame either team had to lose.I'm just glad it didn't come down to the time keeper .That should be his or her last state game.Not just the times it was noticed by the ref but even after some plays a second or two would disappear.

With the above information I have come to a few conclusions, The first is that if a Henry fan thinks that for some reason they have played a schedule that is harder than West they are sadly mistaken and the above information proves just that, West only loss is to the Beast from the East Maryville and had Henry played them they would have lost that game as well as would just about any other team in the state.  Had West played anyone other than Maryville they would also be undefeated and would have won their district and had all games up to this point at home, but even if you exclude Maryville and add an average team to that spot the West Schedule is more difficult.  Another conclusion is the path to Cookeville, West had to defeat the AP #4 and #5 teams at home as well as travel to the AP #3 to win a very tuff game on the road which I believe will show after next week to be the 5A post season game that decided the Championship, My opinion so don't freak out.  Also you will see that the JR and SR groups for both teams have pretty much the same post-season experience so neither team will be at a disadvantage in that department.  If you went by just the numbers alone given the strength of schedule that West has had to endure with the results they have gotten than I do not see how anyone that is unbias to the 2 teams could pick anything other than West +6.  However my gut seems to tell me that West will pull away in that game and I will pick:

 

West: 33, Henry 14

Congrats to that Henry County defense....I'm a fan of defense stepping up and stopping the run which was the bread and butter of West.... wouldnt say they shut it down but made it ineffective in crunch time....when you want to be a state champ....you have to be a balanced team if the other team stopped what you got to the title game on....IMO..neither team had a good passing attack but Henry had just enough to move the chains so that stud rb could ground n pound.....and that defense stopped who they needed to stop early.....the first message came early in the game when all I saw was a helmet and mouth piece airborne....and the stud dbs on West were out in crunch time....that's what I meant when I kept saying....pop pop pop......to stop....I saw Henry on film....remind me defensively of my Owls....pop pop pop...but thats all we had was a good defense and yes they will be back all except 2....Now Henry had a stud rb.....and someone who could catch the  ball....so they were not one dimensional......West could run....and hit....but no passing game which hurt them late in crunch time....BUT.....I would have trusted my Veer to move the chains to get into fg range...not those ducks....I thought West would pull of the win until I saw the qb attempting to throw....totally out the element....What a great game by both teams.....could have went either way.....but in the end....DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!

WOW what a game.  Both teams playing with the hearts of champions.  There were no reasons for anyone to be ashamed to lose this game.  Kudos to both coaching staffs.  I believe if these two played 10 times it would be a 5 to 5 split.  HC  won the game that counted the most. I wonder if RW still say our district is weak?  We had two teams in the semi's and a state champion come out of this district.

I poste this as a favor to debunk the idiotic comment that was made at the begginimg of the thread that Henry countys schedule was 10x harder than West which is still not true, if I was trusting the computer to pick the game it would have been West by 3/6 pts which is basically a toss up and pretty accurate to the way the game played out, West almost had a shot at a game winning FG and their kicker had the leg i they could have gotten in position to try it, but thats football and a great job by Henry, I picked West by a couple scores so obviously I was not trusting the computer to make the prediction. I do have to say that I beleive the Henry county coaching staff was the difference in this one oberall, West jumpe up 14-0 and looked like they were going to run away with it, Henry coaches and playeres showed why they are where thay are and did not panic but made some adjustments that one the ballgame for them, it is extremely difficult to come back down 2 scores against a very good running team like West and win the game, my hats off to Henry as they are a very good football team and well deserving of the gold ball. West is a very good football team and returns a lot of talent for next year and should be in the hunt again, East TN should have a few teams in te preseason top 10 with West more than likely at #1 or 2 an probably the favorite from this area to make the big game, congrats to both teams on a great season.

Good post. I felt from the get go that this game could go either way and that's exactly how it played out. Props to both teams for putting on a classic.
