I hear comments from time to time from people in the west and middle part of the state about Blount county being "open zone"?  Will one of the Maryville supporters explain how this really works?

Yes.

If you pay money, you can attend Maryville High School even if you do not live in the Maryville High School zone.  It is next to impossible to determine if this gives Maryville an advantage.  Some say all out of zone students just happen to play football, some say it is a rarity.  Probably somewhere in the middle.

According to legend the school system must also have room for extra students. Simply paying the tuition may not be enough. I know some young girls who were turned away because that class was already overcrowded with the kids from the city. I have even been told you may be accepted one year and then turned away the next-not sure if this has ever happened.

It can be very complicated. When you request the opportunity to enroll, you will be asked for vital info like age, grad date, 40 time, bench press, and squat information. Depending on these vitals, you will receive a packet of info for either Plan A, B, C, or D. Or you may find out that graduation class is currently full. Some may opt for a personal trainer for a couple of years and then reapply.

Thanks for the response.  Do you happen to know which year Maryville High School became an open zone school?

Hey 78....you are not corresponding with a Maryville fan,,,,just a FYI. FactsOnly is another envious sad attempt to uncover our recruiting schemes, trick plays, garbage service done right, and the nuisance that is Maryville.

Maryville has been open zone since the beginning, even when they were going 5 and 5. Some additional facts for you fellows, there are kids that play at the county schools that are zoned Maryville. Additionally, the 3 A lineman of the year in Tennessee for the 2012 season played at Alcoa, and was zoned Maryville.

Happy New Year to the board.....

Funny seeing a Private School guy on here hoping to Stir something up against Maryville .... especially when I've seen you on the DII boards bashing any Public school fans who question anything about DII ... Maryville plays by the Rules big Guy , it only makes you look Hypocritical when you try to suggest otherwise .
