pioneer42
it was a good game. Union city is still a much better team and the team to beat in class A in the state. I was there. Seems the fouls were a little one sided as many were talking. I think Gibson county shot like 99.9 % from the foul line hitting like 20 shots from there which basically kept them in the game. the state goes through union city....welcome to class A Gibson county. once again,, good game by both. union city has to many weapons....for any team. this game was a possible trap game but union city kept their head in game. im sure these two teams will meet again...possibly more than one more time also. I agree with UC having to many weapons for any team. Same ole song as last couple of years. They dominate around here and get to state and really choke it up and get beat. They play a team with some heighth tonight they lose by 10 or more. They outrebounded GC by a lot. Keep in mind they will be in different brackets if they both make it the Boro and anything can happen up there. I am not sold on UC winning it all because they are not a good shooting team. They are a great down low team and are a great zone defensive team. We will see what happens on down the road. I can see a team with some heighth giving them real problems in the Boro. Greenfieldfan
Union City is the best Class A team in west Tennessee but not all of Tennessee. They will have to beat Jackson County and Clark Range both in back to back games at Murfreesboro and that wont happen. You better enjoy it this year because you are about to see Gibson County dominate you for a few years. GCPioneer
Lol @ welcome to Class A ball... Kind of made me laugh. Union City is clearly the better team, for sure, but to crown them state champs after beating a very young Gibson Co. team is somewhat funny as well. This is you guys' year to win it all. If you don't, it'll be your last chance for awhile. As for the game, Amber Fair's 21 points, and more importantly those 3s she hit, was the difference in the game. Amber can definitely shoot the ball from the outside consistently. I think we played okay, but definitely still struggled with Union City's size and physicality. Sophomore Bri Fields was unstoppable in the first half for us finishing the game with 19 points and Freshman Justyce White finished the game win 16. It looks like Union City secures the 1 seed and we will take the 2 seed... District and region tournaments are just around the corner... Should be some fun basketball to watch! Welcome to class a ball? Talkin to a team that won back to back 2a state championships in a district where THIS union city team would have to fight for 3rd place. Ok you better get your shots in now cause next year will be a totally different story. You guys are very good this year and are definately the best team on this end of the state. But let's not get too out of hand
BallLover38237
Not so sure they are the team to beat in Class A. Ever heard of Jackson County or Clarkrange? They're pretty good too. And I have saw all 3 teams play. I think GC will have something to say about one of those teams. I think they can beat either of those teams, and possibly a UC vs GC State Championship Game. I'm still unsure on how good Clarkrange really is... they beat Jackson Co. by 37 the other night, but was that a fluke game or are they really that much better, ya know? Someone I know has seen Jackson Co. this year and says that we are every bit as good as Jackson Co. and match up well with them. We just need to worry about getting to the state tournaments first... I worry about a possible sub-state match up with a very good Middleton team.
Purple & Gold Standard
Did Clarkrange recruit some 5* players or something because we beat them by 18 in the semis last year....Union City has won 46 of their last 47 games...I think we've gotten better since last year as well... BigDaddy_1
Union City is good no doubt, but just what have they won? Gold ball still gives thru 7A until someone knocks them off. Worry about Middleton - very athletic, capable of any given night of playing great but also capable of playing a mediocre game. Maybe not worry, but keep one eye open for Jackson Christian who beat Middleton at home and played to a 3 point game at Middleton.....JC has lots of experience and very smart team. If you want to call it that, 3 newcomers . One is a 6' 3 freshman who is DOMINATING! Clarkrange is way better than they were last year. I've seen JCS play. They're good but I think Gibson or UC would be fine against them. What I worry about is Middletons athleticism. We seem to struggle against athleticism, well Union City athleticism anyways. Middleton at home for sub state would be a tough game for Gibson or UC in my opinion.
