Grace Christian in Knoxville? I wonder what why? I thought they had a young guy who was pretty good.

Based on web site info averaged over 20 wins a season went to state tournament 2013 sectionals 2014. 2011and 2012 think they were on probation. Don't know what's going on. Maybe he opted out, maybe fans base is like tennessee, maybe AD has a buddy that wants the job. Seems strange though.

QSouth89, do you know something everyone else doesn't? That would be a logical move as Grace is not very far away from Powell- if I remember my back roads correctly.

 

Matt Mercer isn't leaving Grace.  He gave up his coaching duties at Grace, Christian Academy, but he is still on the staff at both Grace Baptist Church and GCA.  He's doing what he feels called to do and apparently is not going  back in to coaching.  As a Powell guy, I hate that because he is the guy that the "people" of Powell were hoping would come home (he was an All State football and basketball player at Powell), but it's apparently not meant to be and I certainly respect his decision. 

 

Been told, however, that Powell will likely be naming a coach by week's end.

Have heard the Grace AD is taking over the boys job, not a lot of chatter about (higher profile) coaches in the area being contacted or contacting school about the job. Did hear CAK's assistant coach interviewed for the job. Also heard West might come open but looks like it might be too late for that to happen.

 

Not sure who would want the SD job at this point. That's a tough place to win.

 

Anyone know who is taking over girls at CAK? Wells has coached AAU girls, would he double up?

 

Looks Farragut isn't making a move on boys' side but they have fallen off big time in basketball.

Isn't the AD at Grace the girls's coach?  South Doyle could be good if they could keep their feeder school players from going elsewhere.  I would think Coach Browning (the former girls coach) would be interested, isn't his son over there?  I'm not sure if Coach Wells would be interested it's hard doing double duty.  And I feel Coach Cool does a great job (he knows the game and his teams compete) at Farragut. Since Hardin Valley opened it has hurt them as far as hoops I'm sure there are kids at HVA who would have been zoned for FHS.

Powell girls coach Caitlin Hollifield was hired as the girls basketball coach and assistant AD at CAK on Friday. 

 

Good hire for CAK.  Cait is a tremendous young coach with a very bright future.

      I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"

      Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!

      I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
