How silly of me ... I left off one that I think will have the biggest impact in District 14. Cordova. That coach impressed me with what they were able to do in one short year. I'm REALLY interested in what they do this year. I won't be surprised if they unseat Arlington as the king of District 14 this year.

District 14-AAA has been a two horse race year in or out. Those two horses have traditionally been Arlington and Millington. I do not see that changing this year. Cordova has plenty of athletes but not a whole lot of football players. There is a difference. Millington has a share of both. Look for them to win District 14-aaa this year. Lots of returning starters including a QB that is returning for his 3rd year as the starter.

I agree that District 14 has traditionally been between Arlington and Millington these past few years. However, Cordova made a huge splash last year in that coach's first year. It's not like that was his first years being successful. He took a small Westwood program and made them into a contender during his short tenure. Now he's at a school that has one of the largest enrollments. Lat year wasn't a fluke at Cordova. District 14 is now a three headed monster and Cordova is going to be very competitive.

 

Yeah, they didn't start the season on a strong note last year but they ended it on a good note with a 1 point loss at Arlington before losing to Whitehaven in the first round of the playoffs. I think this second year will be even better. I'll definately be keeping my eye on them this year.

 

What's the forcast for Millington this year. Will they be a 5A contender this year? How do you think they will fare against the Ridgeways, Easts, and Melroses of the world?

I'm glad you chimed in on this. You came to mind when I was typing some of this stuff. Thats because you had no knowledge of Whitehaven as a community until you came to the stadium for a game. You experienced it first hand ... yet, that experience was cut short because your team was ushured out of the stadium after the game as if Iyou guys were the President of the United States and the local police were the Sercret Service. I believe whole heartedly that your coaching staff would have loved to talk with the Whitehaven coaching staff afterwards and sort of milled around some to eat some of the Bar-B-Q that is cooked for the coahes at the west end of the stadium and just fellowship a little. I truely believe that an opportunity was missed. But ... the advice your people were given doesn't surprise me at all. It's the mentality that's prevelent in this area. Do you remember when you guys were going to come to Whitehaven and there was a thread started and some yahoo came on here making all kind of slurs and negative comments? Then you came and you were like ... this is nothing like I thought it would be. Well, what you saw is par for the course, it wasn't an abberation, yet the perception is the perception.

 

Keep the faith, that game may very well be played again!
