RCfan
I sincerely hope Donovan is wrong about Rhea County being in Region 4 because travel will kill the Eagles. The closest region game would be at least an hour away not to mention the time change. The Eagle nation travels well but this may be asking a little much week in and week out. Rhea Co.
I sincerely hope Donovan is wrong about Rhea County being in Region 4 because travel will kill the Eagles. SMH Yeah that would be insane for Rhea to be in that Region. I know exactly how long it takes to get from Rhea County High School to Columbia is right at 3 hours and 15 mins. I have made that trip to Columbia many times. There should be 4 regions in East Tennessee 3 in middle and in 1 west. The knoxville area alone has 13 teams. crazzyness
Only comment I have is in Region 1A, Concord Christian would be there before Greenback would. They could possibly send then both to region 1.
AdmiralDude
As some have mentioned, I don't see why Donovan put Farragut District 2 instead of Knox West, that doesn't make any sense. Knox West is 15 miles east of Farragut. I understand he put this to together for all districts in the state and how easy can be to overlook a few school. Pleasant, Richland, Summertown Region 7 (9 Teams): Huntingdon, Hollow Rock-Bruceton, West Carroll, Dresden, Gleason, Greenfield, South Fulton, Union City, Lake County Region 8 (9 Teams): Booker T. Washington, G.W. Carver, KIPP Memphis Collegiate, Memphis Northside, Middleton, Memphis Middle College, W.E.B. Dubois, Humboldt, Peabody Note: Hollow Rock-Bruceton could be a candidate for Region 5, but I kept it in Region 7 due to its close proximity to other schools in that region. After about 2 1/2 hours of careful deliberation, this is what I got. I'm not sure if the TSSAA will go for 9-team districts, but there are three here because of very long distances between some of these schools. All of 1A is a complete mess, with way too many in West TN and Southwest Middle TN and too few in far East TN. Concord Christian and Moore County could fit in other regions. I wasn't sure what to do with West and Middle TN in 2A, so I made an educated guesstimate. Regions 2-6 in 3A may be a tad off in places, and the same for Regions 3-6 in 4A. I'm not too confident with 5A. When Gibbs moved up, it left South Doyle as an outlier that didn't fit with the other schools without overloading the region. But, I moved Gibbs east and let South Doyle stay because Gibbs is already a little northeast of Knoxville (TSSAA may do the opposite). I also had several problems placing Regions 4-6 in 5A. The 5A schools in the middle of the state are grouped in Sumner, Davidson, NW Rutherford, Williamson, and Maury, but also include the outliers White (which is way out by itself), Franklin, Lincoln, and Shelbyville. Those three regions were tricky. Lastly, my 6A projection is the same as every other one I've seen. Bradley Central gets to drive hundreds of miles to the Johnson City area, Wilson County schools play Nashville teams and Franklin, and the Rutherford County powerhouses get to run over the usually embarrassing teams of Coffee and Warren, as well as Cookeville. I'm not sure that they would move Oneida, since it is pretty close to those Morgan County schools and is very, very far from Unaka and Cloudland. crazzyness
It would make a lot of sense to put Oneida in with Region 1 since Jellico and Hancock County are in there. At a glance it would, cause Oneida isnt that far from Jellico as the bird flys. But on road, it takes the better part of 50 minites. Having Midway, Harriman, Oakdale, Coalfield, Sunbright, and Oneida in in the in the same regiom just makes pefect sense. Look on a map, and you'll see that to get from Oneida (furtherest north) to Midway (furtherest south) you pass directly through Sunbright and Harriman, with Oakdale and Coalfield only being about 10 minutes either side of Harriman. Draw a straight line between them and see how close all those schools are to it. And ALL within an hour and 40 minites of one another. And the reason Jellico has historical ties to Region one is that they were somewhat near old District 2 schools Powell Valley, J. Frank White, and Forge Ridge. From what I am hearing, the TSSAA wants to see between 6 and 8 teams per region, so I just don't see 9 being in any region under the new format. Going back to the "4 from each region" playoff qualification, to have some districts with just 5 schools and others with 9 just isn't equitable from an opportunity to qualify standpoint. The guys in Hermitage have gotten a lot of input from coaches and ADs this time around and I understandt it that's one of the issues they are trying to keep as close to even as possible. wilsontd
I can go with most of these but I just do not believe if one region has 8 teams than another should not have 6, There musty be one team that is the closest to the rest that it should be as even as possible. Schedules should not be one region playing 7 region games while the another region plays five. I am more for balanced regions by teams than distance. It is only for two years. After that you can rotate one or two teams and make new regions. Players like playing new teams and most coaches like the challenge of preparing for new teams also. It is a win win for everyone. Indian
In spots where a lot of teams are packed in, go with 10 teams and then have 5-team subregions. 1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2 in week 10 to determine playoff spots. That might help things. Some of the "non-subregion" games could be filled with teams from the opposite group. This is not a new concept (GA for one)
