Donovan Stewart's Projected 2015-16 Regions

The TSSAA should release the new regions for the 2015 and 2016 seasons in a couple of weeks but why wait?

 

After talking to coaches across the state in every classification and my good friend Rand McNally of map fame, here are my projected regions in every classification.

 

Again these are my projections alone and in no means are final.

 

Obviously in Classes 1A through 5A, there will be eight regions and the top four teams will make the playoffs while in the revamped 6A, the top 32 teams in terms of enrollment will all make the playoffs regardless of record.

I think they will probably do something very similar to what Donovan's predicting.

 

I agree with Donovan in that I think that the 2A regions in Memphis should be broken up into two 5-team regions. However, I think that Region 7 and Region 8 should be as follows because of geography:

That Stewart man should get in a new line of work.   Fayetteville is farther west than Huntland and Moore County by a lot.  In fact, outside of Whitwell and Lookout Valle, is the closest 1a school from South Pittsburg.  He needs to take a look at Copper Basin and Fayetteville.  CB is 99 Miles for South Pittsburg and that is about half way!  I guess he got himself in trouble by looking at that bogus arrangement that came out of Knoxville.  That said, if he were to swap Fayetteville with Huntland, that would be a lot like I would have projected.

I agree with that.  There are a couple of "wild cards" that could end up in more than one Region, Knoxville West being one of those.  They could end up in either 2 or 3, and another is South-Doyle, who could end up in either 1 or 2.  

 

There are several scenarios like that statewide, but I believe that Donovan is pretty close with his list.

I know that.  Where did I say jack about playoff quads?  Go get a map.  Take a look at Fayetteville, South Pittsburg and Copper Basin.  Then look at Huntland.  Then get back to me about the most sense travel wise and distance wise.   It looks like Stewart used an earlier projection from a Knoxville article speculating about new classifications and regions.  Greenback is a lot closer to CB than Fayetteville!

I like this.  Would like to see Region 6 swap Pearl Cohn and Creekwood for Region 5's White House and Portland.  Less travel for Springfield but i am admittedly being greedy plus we have a history with White House and Portland.
