Tough Tennessee High School teams of the Past

2001 and 2002 Hillsboro were two of the toughest and most athletic teams I have ever seen that failed to win a state title. My old friend and roommate from college had a younger brother who played on both of those teams. We went and watched them several times both years. Speed all over the dang place. I remember a game against Hillwood I think it was. Can't remember which year, but Hillwood got the ball first and had a net loss of nearly 40 yards on the first possession. Most of the game went like that. I remember thinking to myself "I wonder if this is some kinda state record for negative yardage".

Anyway, they lost to Maryville in the title game 34-27 in '01 and then 29-26 in '02. Those were their only losses both years. Ended up winning it all the next year in '03, but my friend's brother had already graduated so I didn't get to see them that year to make a comparison.

Many people say that was the best team Milan ever had. Think you might have that score wrong but I'm not sure.
