I am not referencing the teams that are a given, that's too easy. But I find it hard for you to argue how the west side of the bracket is sooo tough. I mean really what a joke. Do you guys have to play oak ridge , rhea county, Morristown west, Sevier co, Knox west, Farragut to even have a chance to get to cookeville? All teams that could laugh their way through the west side. All of these teams are ACTUAL contenders. Therefore, I think this thread is a joke. Now, do I think independence is a good team, yeah sure they are in fact the only undefeated in 5a but they also have not been tested and proven. The only thing they have proven is that they can beat sub par football teams.

Indy is not proven ?

How bout they beat Smyrna by the same score Oakland did ? Oh and our all state QB didn't even dress for that one

Beat Centenial by 45 pts

Beat following playoff teams by at least 30 pts

Brentwood

Laverne

LC

Shelbyville

That's 6 playoff Teams they beat

Here's a preview of the Indy-Cane Ridge and Centennial-Southwind games.  Looks like CR has some talent and SW will be a big test.

 CLASS 5A

Cane Ridge (8-2) at Independence (10-0)

If there ever was a team capable and ready for an upset, it’s the Ravens. Cane Ridge lost only to the second and third teams in their region and beat the region champ, Hillsboro, 21-14 in the middle of the season. The Ravens are fast, athletic and well-coached.

If there ever was a team ready to prevent an upset, it’s Independence. Veteran head coach Scott Blade, who has a golden ball to his credit, is well known for his wide open offense. But this is a different Eagles team. Yes, Andrew Bunch may be the best quarterback in 100 miles, but part of that goes to Nate Johnson, Adam Swayze (not a bad QB himself) and Seth Huner, a group that can shred a secondary. But the development of a solid offensive line and the hard running of Daniel Wright make this Eagle team different. Add to that an overlooked stingy defense, which allowed 17 points in opener – the most all year.

Southwind (8-2) at Centennial (9-1)

Centennial won the region, but may have gotten the toughest first round draw. The Jaguars finished in a three-way tie for second in Region 8-5A and own the only win over region champ Brighton. But under the tie-breakers, Southwind comes east. They are much like Centennial – a high-flying offense (they scored 40 or more points in six of their 10 games) and a stiff defense (they allowed more than 10 points in only four games).

The Cougars enter the playoffs a true definition of team. In any given game any number of key players can make the big play. Texas A&M commit Tyrel Dodson is the obvious name, but he’s quick to share credit and time with Chase Carder (76 tackles, 17 for a loss, 5 sacks, 2 INT’s and 2 forced fumbles) at linebacker. Devious Christman is the leading receiver but also a lockdown DB. The team is only giving up 1.9 yards per rushing attempt. Offensively, Mondu Sawyers is a 1,000-yard running back for the year and Tristan Pisacane has been throwing the ball all over the field the last three weeks, sharing time with Blake Lovell who is returning from a shoulder injury.

Kinda what I've been saying in this thread. Southwind is scary. Theyre the one team from region 8 that I think could make noise. Edited by RedSwarm

Indy - 42

Cane Ridge - 7

Halftime

Hendersonville - Beech - Hboro are you taking notes of this

Ready to travel down to Thompson Station. The Commandos always love coming to Independence. Gonna be Independences toughest matchup thus far. I think we're gonna give Ya your money's worth next week. The commandos are pretty dang good themselves.

Love the Beech Hillsboro rematch. No way does Beech lose to them twice

Gonna be Hendersonville's toughest matchup thus far as well (bar none).. Independence is a phenomenal team, their record and stats speak for themselves!! Great effort by Hendersonville tonight!! We've got to cut out the turnovers and penalties against a team as sound as Independence.. Hoping for a great game and atmosphere.. Edited by CommandoBlood100

Our war team better bring the noise and give us some help on the road. The louder the better

Indy is gonna be the front runner in 5A but they'll have to earn it the rest of the way every team will give them their best game.

Oldfan41, you prove my point. Independence beat a "very good" LaVergne team. LaVergne went 6-4 and lost to an awful Summit team. A win against LaVergne isn't impressive, its expected.

I never said LaVergne was a very good team I said a very talented and fast team with speed to burn. My point was Independence was a very good team with a ton of talent and great coaches! I would love to see the wolverines with their Coaching staff it would be freaking scary!
