Mr Twister,

Just now catching up on this thread but ... would you happen to have a copy of Alcoa vs Friendsville from that '78 season?  I was on that Friendsville team.  We were both undefeated coming in, the Tornadoes prevailed 31-0 that night.  I would love to be able to relive trying to block Sam Love all night.

I wish someone could find the film of the 1999 Maryville-William Blount game. I've never even seen a photo of that game.

I never thought Alcoa had uniforms like that in the 1970s i thought they wore red helmets

They may have worn Maroon helmets in earlier years but from 1977 till now they've worn the silver helmets. Kind of like today you'll hear people say that Alcoa's colors are Maroon & Silver. Back then our School colors was Maroon & Gray.

No i do not have any of those films. Only have Playoff films and one Alcoa vs Maryville from '78 or '79 can't remember the year. This is the only one I have transferred over to DVD so far.

Alcoa wore Maroon Helmets with a white stripe on them in 66 when Albert Davis was there and I seem to remember them having a large A on them after that but I know for 100% they wore silver helmets in 1970 with three maroon pin stripes in the middle and a large maroon A on the side. I also remember in 75 they had Alcoa spelled across the side in maroon but I can tell you they have had silver helmets since 1970 for sure in one design or another.

You guys are forgetting the Suitcase Scott years when they wore those awful Michigan style buckets.

I think Ironside brought them on board if I am not mistaken....and I usually am not mistaken.

I thought I was wrong once, but as it turned out, I was correct.

The horn helmet was 1998-1999 under Ironside. Meadows first team in 2000 was back to the traditional helmet....

    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
    • Maryville will recapture the loses from last year against West, Bradley and Farragut. The Bearden game will be the tough one but I look for the wheels to come off that ride somewhere down the road because of all the crap that goes on there. I know to many parents there and some of the things I've been told and some of the post a few of them have made on facebook. They all can't be liars.
    • If Heritage moves down and Alcoa moves up the best thing for Heritage is to do what William Blount did when theystopped playing Maryville or meet certain defeat. Honestly can't see Alcoa not moving up the way the county is growing. Might be in the Mountaineers best interest to stay in 5A because none of those teams on their schedule are anything close to Alcoa.
    • I say over as well. Barney, regarding the move to 4A, will the cross-town blowhards move up as well??
