High enrollment does not equate to big roster for inner city schools. School pride took a devastating hit with the elimination of neighborhood schools.

With the the exception of cane ridge why are there so many poor football programs in metro with high enrollments?

What would you consider a High Enrollment? Cane Ridge is new to the party as far as quality programs. McGavock, Overton, Hillsboro usually have quality programs year in & year out in the 5A/6A classes.

 

The Big Two in Metro historically & the past few years has been Pearl Cohn & Hillsboro. Overton is always quality, Cane Ridge is a program on the rise, as is Stratford..

If you are talking historical out of teams currently playing football you have to add in whites creek under Richard coure and Anthony law, maplewood, hunters lane, and Stratford was really good in the 90's. Heck even glencliff had a good year or two and hillwood had at least one good year. Recently it's been hillsboro and PC. Overton fields a quality team year in and year out and Cr is on the rise. Stratford is getting back to form under Fitzgerald. The big differences in metro are the daily lives of the kids, the facilities, and the lack of community support.

Each school is different and has different problems. Hunters Lane- Administration then the kids know that there football is not good and chooses to go to another schools. Schools like Overton,Mcgavock,Glencliff have a different demographic of students. Antioch- The death of AHS has been CR for the most part lately. I feel once they get one winning season it will be alot better for them. Then let's face it after Ensworth, Brentwood Academy, Father Ryan, Goodpasture, Ezell-Harding, Nashville Christian, MBA, Franklin Road Academy come scoop up all the kids it's a different ball game. If Metro didn't have these private schools we would be a real deal Powerhouse!

My opinion: last 50 yrs Overton

last 20 yrs Pearl Cohn

1960's- Probably Donelson or Madison

1970's-Maplewood and Overton

1980's-Overton

1990's-Pearl Cohn and Overton

2000's-Hillsboro and Pearl Cohn

2010-Pearl Cohn

Pearl Cohn was bad until the mid to late 90s

 

Hillsboro had some lean yrs after Blade left and before Clayton

 

Whites Creek was tough throughout the 90s too

Since 1996 Pearl-Cohn has been the standard for high school football in Metro. They've won 2 state titles, been to another state title game, and reached the state semifinals 3 more times, and been to the quarterfinals 4 other times. For 20 years they've been among the powerhouses in the midstate area.

if you ask me East is the LaVergne of Nashville. They have 3 BIG time recruits and a few mid major kids and can't win. Then there a 3a school and have more talent then most schools in 3a. Mcgavock- Your guess is good as mines. I want to say it's slim Pickens there with kids who play football. CR,PC,SHS can all make it to Memphis if they do what they pose to do.CR will have a harder time making it.
