that makes no sense .. you mean to tell me a family puts their kid at say Knox Cath and are paying tuition and living in says Karns .. and the family come upon hard times and cant afford to pay the tuition that if he goes back to Karns he has to sit ???? Thats crazy ... but if he is a good player at Karns and Knoc Cath comes calling and his family decides to go to Knox Cath he doesnt have to sit a year ... that is the craziest thing I have ever heard ... a kid has to back to his community school becuase parents cant afford tuition and he has to pay the price by sitting a year ..... LOL .. it figures its the TSSAA

That would be crazy. Edited by QSouth89

That is NOT how it works. If your child is at a private school and decides transfer to a public school your kid is eligible to play if it's your child's zoned school. The same goes for any athlete that doesn't attend their zoned public school and then decides to transfer to their zoned school, they can play right away. To transfer from a public school to a private school you HAVE to sit out unless you move and it has be a 20 mile move. Now with special education laws and NCLB, there are legal ways to move schools without sitting out but it has to be of a true academic nature and that doesn't apply on a public to private transfer just public to public. Can't transfer from a private to a public if within 20 miles. Some waivers may be given depending on circumstances.

Last year Father Ryan had a player leave for Hendersonville but he was ineligible due to the mileage issue. He lost his Sr year and is now at Vandy.

It's the other part youre wrong about. No kid leaving a private school can go to their zoned public school and just be eligible. If an athletic record was established, they sit a year without a change of residence.

I assumed they could because we had a varsity basketball player transfer to Bearden and I was told he was on their varsity. I guess he won't be eligible then. Edited by QSouth89
