Who takes on the Franklin County job now?

Any Franklin County folks catch the scrimmage with Rhea? Any insight to either team?

I'm a Rhea County guy, but I was there. I was very impressed with Franklin County compared to when we scrimmaged them last year. They seem to have found an offense (Wing T) that fits their personnel very well. They aren't monstrously huge on the offensive or defensive fronts, but they are affective and block just long enough for those strong, shifty running backs to make plays.

Franklin county played very well. From what I could tell I don't think any one player played both sides of the ball. Three key players from last year didn't dress out for the scrimmage. FC hung right in with RC all four quarters. Game ended with RC winning 26 to 20. I honestly think FC will be one of the top 3 teams in region 5 5A this season.

When was the last time a 5A, 6A or D2AA school won a state championship with the Wing T offense?  Not a knock but just saying.

Oakland led Whitehaven the entire game until about 2 minutes left in the championship game of 6A.  It can be done.

1.  Who won the state championship game?

2.  Yes, it can be done but in D1AAAAA, D1AAAAAA & D2AA you need to be able to run a balanced offense.  You also need to have the ability to throw the football & run a 2 minute offense.

3.  If you run a Wing T offense it becomes very difficult to come from behind late in the game against a good team.

I didn't say they won.   Just making the point that Whitehaven traditionally one of the most athletic teams in the State and last year was on exception.  Oakland controlled that game from start to finish (except the final 2 minutes, obviously)   It's hard to win strictly with a traditional wingT, but there are hybrid versions that have generated success.

One day it will win a championship but as of right now in this state at the highest level since 1969 it has not done so.

    • Who’s going to lead the pirates offense this year?
    • Pickett is good, may have a Mr. Football like season if he’s used correctly. One of the best teams Marion has fielded in a while. I think they go 12-1 and loose to ER.  ER has better players at almost every position. If they play discipline this year, they win soundly. If they don’t though…Marion could sneak away with it.
    • I’m betting the house on the Indians. Pickett and Co will be the only team to challenge the Indians in the East. Huntingdon can in the West. I think Brooks goes 15-0 and has the first perfect season and state championship in ER history.
    • Sounds like a great opportunity has opened up for the football team.  With the head coach of the diamond rebels making it official and quitting this week, there should be some room for the gridiron guys to benefit. I assume the administration won’t continue paying six figures to two former coach that quit to continue teaching drivers Ed. Thats pretty good money that could be redirected toward the football program. Also, with the more recent policies of pushing kids to only play one sport, abolishing the baseball program altogether would help on Friday nights in the fall. There is some decent speed on that baseball team that should’ve been playing on Fridays IMO. I’m not sure if anybody would really miss that baseball program anyway with it being across town from the school. The liability of letting players actually use the facilities could also be mitigated with closing the program. That liability seems to be a really big issue for 825. Anyway, it seems like a great opportunity is available.
    • Yeah, I read about their spring blue/gray scrimmage after I typed that.   Sounds like a real mess over there.  I just hate that for 'em.  Haw
