I have been out of the loop for a while, but from a couple of dads that have called me, I think all of the young guys are going to stay together.  But who knows what will happen between now and summer.

Just hope the kids do whats best for themselves, whatever that may be. And the dads don't make a decision from being pressured by others that they later regret.

Only 1 team in the new region made it past the 2nd rd of the 6A playoffs this yr

Doesn't matter. Ooltewah and Mcminn were tough 5A teams this year and Cleveland would have been really tough too had it not been for awful luck with injuries. Maryville and Bradley return from the old region and everyone knows they will be really tough. WB will have their hands full in this new region.

I'm betting only 1 team in the region makes it past 2nd of playoffs in 2017. 6A is a big jump from 5A. The teams moving up weren't overly successful in 5A . Not sure how far the owls made it in the playoffs. So yes it does matter. Running from competiton always hurts the end product.

The teams in WB's new region are basically a rehash of the 5 class days. WB, Heritage, Mcminn, Ooltewah, and Bradley return from that old 5A region. The only difference now is Maryville has joined and Cleveland replaces Soddy Daisy. WB was competitive in that old region but they were a much stronger program during those days. And despite WB competing in that old region they never won it. Back during those days Bradley, Heritage, and Soddy Daisy were easy cupcake wins. Bradley is a much better team now and for the first time in two decades WB cant count on a win against Heritage. Cleveland replaces cupcake Soddy Daisy and they are a traditional power with a lot of talent and a championship coach. And none of those teams made it far in the playoffs?????? Ooltewah made it to the quarterfinals and had State Champ Farragut all but beat. There is not a big difference between 5A and 6A. You are splitting hairs here. WB will be underdogs in every single region game. Edited by Governors91

And running from competition? What are you talking about? WB plays in the regions the TSSAA places them in and it always ends up being a tough region. If you are talking about Alcoa, that's one game. Even Alabama doesnt play a powerhouse every single week and throws a cupcake or two on their schedule every year. Its good strategy.

. I thought the semifinals was South Doyle vs Farragut? Thought the owls lost earlier, pretty sure you're wrong about this as well. But if you dont think their is a big jump between 5A and 6A, Talk to some head coaches that have faced both.the fact that SD made it as far as Maryville did in the playoffs, says alot about the difference in the classifications. The litmus test on which one of us it right will be the last Saturday in November in 2017. Lets see how this region did in the 6A playoffs. Nothing like objective results to settle a difference of opinion.

I won't speak for other people, but suffice it to say that there may be some dads that are in the same position that I was in four years ago.... and that is sitting down and trying to give the best advice you can give to your son on what you think is in his best interest and the son deciding that he wants to stay at WB to help build the program.  It was an admirable decision, unfortunately, it just didn't work out.  Good luck to those young ones and their parents where ever they end up.

How do you guys think WBs stepping away from better competition will impact the retention of its talented young players? Will they stay in order to do better against lesser competition or will they move on to test themselves against better teams and get noticed.

After watching the state championship games, it looked like there were ALOT of kids down morganton rd that could have helped WB this year. Making a dent down 411 would have more of an impact than changing teams on the schedule-IMO.

You talking about Greenback kids, middle school kids coming up or kids that currently go to WB that don't play?
