Selmer Middle School coach Stacy Riley has been named interim Head Coach for the season. The position will be evaluated at the end of the year.

I think this is a pretty good hire considering the circumstances. Former player, he has had a lot of success at the Middle School level, a lot of the current players have played for him. Most of the kids liked playing for him and he can keep kids from going to Adamsville. This is an opportunity to see how he handles the high school game and if he does well, he gets the job, if not, they can perform a coaching search.

Riley will be as good as he is allowed to be. He will make better young men of your players, and better players of your young men...if he is allowed to coach his way and play who he chooses. Support him and you have a diamond in the rough, but pressure him to "conform" to the booster's wishes and he's enough of his own man to walk. Just my humble opinion.

Hope Stacey gets the chance to do what he can and people leave him alone and let him coach! I hear that is a big problem there.  Interested to see if he can keep kids from going to Adamsville, heard they got a pretty good freshman class, if they will let him coach then the kids will play for him.

The keeping kids from going to Adamsville shouldn't be a problem unless they are big into football. Really haven't lost many kids the last few years in basketball, especially the top kids. When they did leave, it was cause they didn't want to play for Brown. I don't think the freshmen class is overly strong but the sophomore class has a lot of potential. It looks like there is going to be a drop off over then next few years talent wise county wide in the middle school levels. So, it is going to be important to get all the players you can to your school. I don't think he will have any problem with coaching the way he wants to coach.

Don't know where that came from.  They had a preacher's son in Forsythe.

There are coaches all over this country doing the discipline that is necessary without cussing kids and those that are doing it should be made to stop.  Period

I bet the players cuss more than the coach did and I bet they also do lots of stuff even parents don't have a clue about..thats what teenagers do.

Maybe McNairy should provide a safe space somewhere for small feelings.

Again, maybe they should hire a preacher..not the son of a preacher. I'm talking about someone the entire community can put on a pedestal. Someone that has always held the moral high ground, someone that has never been compromised, someone we should all aspire to be like, someone that is pure, someone that is clean as a whistle like some of the fans.

Really, teenagers do things their parents don't know.  I had no idea. I know I never did, yeah right!!   That maybe the dumbest statement I've ever read.  No coach worth their salt is going to let players cuss. Are some players going to under their breath, yes.  But I don't know any coach that would tolerate it if they heard it

Disciplne can be accomplished without cussing kids.  No adult Coach should ever cuss a player. They are to be an example not plain stupid

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
