Wait a cotton picking minute?! Melrose has allowed Ced to coach at HAMILTON, the rival, while they are still at an average level?!? Da heck going on in Orange Mound?

Don't know. Let's watch to see what happens at Hamilton over the next few years. They are currently a 2A school in the same class as Mitchell.

Let there be no doubt. Devin Boddie Jr.'s verbal commitment to play football at Vanderbilt next season was based as much on academics as it was athletics.

"In my household, education is the main thing. Then athletics," he said. "For me, it's basically a four-year decision. It's a great school academically, a great city with lots of job opportunities after college ... (and) it's an SEC team that has a great program and is close to home.

"It just felt like family there honestly and I feel like it was the best fit for me."

The 5-11, 175-pound athlete — who will play for the Tigers this year after transferring from Lausanne — chose the Commodores from a list of six finalists that also included Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Purdue and Virginia. He enters his senior season as the 23rd-ranked player in Tennessee, according to 24/7 Sports.

Boddie said the Commodores primarily recruited him as a slot receiver and he'll see action at that position as well as cornerback for Whitehaven.

During his career at Lausanne, Boddie helped the Lynx to consecutive undefeated seasons and state championships in 2016 and 2017. Lausanne defeated Whitehaven 14-7 when the teams met last fall and the player says he eager to experience the budding rivalry from the other side.

"Whitehaven always has had a great defense,"  he said. "But with me playing offense and going against these guys ... I really do feel like we have the best defense in Tennessee."

As one of the state's top receivers, Keveon Mullins is used to reversing his field. He did it once again on Thursday.

Mullins, the class of 2019 standout at Whitehaven, announced on Twitter that he had verbally committed to play his college football at South Carolina. The 6-2, 200-pounder had committed to Memphis in April before deciding to re-open his recruitment.

Mullins — who will play at Whitehaven after transferring from East — is the top returning receiver in the Shelby-Metro area. As a junior, he caught 52 passes for 1,011 yards and scored eight touchdowns while averaging 91.9 yards per game. He enters the season as the state's 12th-ranked prospect, according to 247 Sports' composite rankings.

Only No. 10 T.J. Sheffield of Independence and 11th-ranked Jayden Harrison of Nashville Pearl-Cohn are ranked higher than him at receiver.

He joins Whitehaven teammate Devin Boddie Jr. as Tigers who have committed to SEC schools. Boddie, a transfer from Lausanne, announced for Vanderbilt on Wednesday.

How many SEC prospects does Whitehaven have? Everyone may be playing for 2nd this year.

REBELRON:

Currently, at this moment in time on July 5, 2018,  there are six (6) Whitehaven players with SEC offers. Two (2) class of 2020, and four(4) class of 2019.

Class of 2020:

1) Bryson Eason, 6'-3", 230 lb., (ILB/OLB)

2) Martavbious French, 6'-4", 240lb, (ILB/S/OLB)

Class of 2019:

1) Keveon Mullins, 6'-3", 205 lb., (WR/S) ... committed to South Carolina

2) Devin Bodie 5'-10", 175 lb.,(WR/CB) ... committed to Vandy

3) Melvin McBride, 6'-4", 310 lb., (OL)

4) Coromontae Hamilton, 6'-3", 250 lb., (TE/DE)

Currently, there are 15, to date, with some kind of offer. Out of the remaining nine (9), I feel that there are two (2) out of that group tht will probably get some interest from a SEC type of school. One (1) is a class of 2020 student-athlete and the other is a class of 2021 student-athlete.

Class of 2020 SEC prospect:

(2020 Riv_als Tennessee Top 20) / (247.com Tennessee Top Recruits)

1) Tamarion McDonald 6'-2", 220 lb., (S/OLB) ... offers from Southern Miss & Cincinatti

Class of 2021 SEC prospect:

2) Ariyon Page, 5'-10", 175 lb., (WR/CB) ... offer from the U of M.

As far as, the "Everyone playing for 2nd place comment", on paper, it may appear that way. Reality ... those offers don't amount to a hill of beans when it comes to strapping up and getting on the grid iron. It is anybody's trophy to win. Whitehaven will be in the hunt though.

The offers are a direct reflection of coach Saulsberry's recruitment program he's been able to put in place at Whitehaven plus the AMOUNT OF TIME AND EFFORT he's personally put in during the spring and summer getting his players to various multiple camps. If high school coaches across Tennessee aren't blowing up his cell phone asking him what he is doing or trying taking him to dinner to try and pick his brain  ... they aren't trying. He can teach a seminar.

THIS didn't JUST HAPPEN.  This isn't ARBITRARY. IT is very DELIBERATE!

All credit needs to go to former East Coach Marcus Wimberly for developing this kid into a dynamic receiver! This kid was very raw when he showed up an the campus of East. Wimberly developed him into a beast! I see you guys posting all of these SEC commits on this site, but my question to you guys is, how many of these guys came into Whitehaven's program as freshman? Looks to me that most of these guys are transfers. You guys are all over the city stealing players where coaches at smaller schools took time to do it the right way and develop kids through hard work and then you guys come out of no where and get the kid to transfer their Junior/Senior year. Then to add on, you guys try to claim the success. FAKE NEWS!!!!!!!!
