Looking for help on Whites Creek and LEAP. I know I read something about turmoil at WC this year with assistant and hc. Looked like LEAP coach had it rolling after a couple years. What is the situation there? Any information on either job/area would be appreciated. Current hs coach in the Northeast looking to possibly make move south. Looking to gather as much info as possible about state athletic rules (transferring/open enrollment, off season workouts permitted, etc.)

Coach at LEAD Academy took a job at a 6A school in ATL. LEAD has had a lot of success the past few years. I think there will be a lot of interest in the position.

Talent is drying up, not as attractive as you would think.

Is the Overton job still open? Not from the area. What can you guys tell me about talent/history of the place?

John Overton High School job goes to John Hopson (former assistant with Maplewood boy's) for their position.

Without naming the school, I recently put my resume in for a head coaching spot in the Nashville area. Got a return email inviting me for a 15 minute interview. Now, my resume clearly showed that I live approximately 10 hours away......I put a call in to both the AD and principal after receiving the email, requesting for a phone interview. Neither bothered to return a call. Told me all I needed to know how things are run at the school. I am assuming this isn't typical behavior at "well run" schools.

Hopefully you pulled your name!

Hoopscoach,

In the last two years I have had some interesting experiences with Metro schools. I applied to one school and was contacted by their principal four hours later. We talked for 20 minutes on the phone and since I was out of town at the time he set up a phone interview for noon two days later.  He never contacted me again... lol

I was also contacted by an AD this year who wanted me to interview. Three days later I was told they were going in another direction....smh

It is who you know around here.  Records, accolades and reputation for an outsider mean nothing.

In fairness, it seems to be who you know almost everywhere...

Lexington promotes assistant Keith Runyon to head coach. Will this work for them?

Runyon is a good guy and the kids seem to like him, so he doesn't have to overcome that obstacle. There are some pitfalls that he will have to be careful of though...without "outing" what some close to the program think, it will be an uphill battle to be better than mediocre. The problems will become clear soon enough.

Talent hasn’t been and still isn’t there to win. They haven’t had really good talent since Marshall graduated. Hopefully they will give him a chance. Not sure what some close to the program are thinking but mediocre is the norm in Lexington

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
