With one week to go, two teams are in and 5 are still eligible for playoffs.  Two spots up for grabs between Union City, McKenzie, and Gibson County.  Seeding still up in the air for 2, 3, and 4.

Peabody  is region champion.

TCA has secured third place and can still get second.

UC can finish second, fourth, or be eliminated

McKenzie and Gibson County can each finish third or fourth, or be eliminated

Region 7-2A Slobberknockers?  You bet!

Couldnt have thought of a better nickname for us !!!! LOL it truly is us!!!

If it is a 3 way tie in the region. They go to overall record to determine the highest seed. After that the 2 remaining go to head to head. A tca win Thursday and a Mckenzie win Friday will mean. Peabody, TCA, Mckenzie then UC.

Per the TSSAA Handbook:

In Class 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A, all teams are required to play all other teams within their region. The teams
with the best region records shall be declared the region winner, runner-up, third and fourth place and shall
advance to the first round of the football play-off series.

B. If at any point when the following tie-breaking procedures are applied, one team has beaten all the other teams
that are tied for a play-off position, that team shall be rated above the others.

C. In the event of a tie for the region winner, runner-up, third-place, or fourth-place team, if either team(s) has
defeated the other(s) in regular-season play, the team(s) shall be rated above the other(s) in the standings.
(After
the region winner has been determined, the tie-breaker procedure shall begin all over again starting at the top to
work out the runner-up position. The procedure shall be repeated to determine the third- and fourth-place teams.)

D. The following tie-breaking procedures shall be applied and all regular-season games, both region and non-region,
shall count (After each of the following steps have been applied, item C above shall be applied.):
1. The team with the greatest number of victories.
2. The team who plays the greatest number of teams who win 50 percent or more of their games.
3. The team who has the greatest number of victories over teams winning 50 percent or more of their games.
4. The team whose opponents have earned the most victories.
5. The team whose opponents have received fewer defeats.
6. Coin Flip

Notice in the text highlighted it says defeated the "others" as in plural?  This means even if there are 4 teams tied with the same region record, if one has defeated the other 3, they are the champ.. Overall record does not matter in this case.

Quad Four

Region 7-1  Peabody
Region 8-4  MAHS

Region 8-2  Mitchell
Region 7-3  McKenzie

Region 7-2  Trinity
Region 8-3  Douglass

Region 8-1  Fairley
Region 7-4  Union City

Ironically it was Adamsville who pulled off an upset on Union City by 22 points last year.   This year, it was McKenzie that upset the Tornadoes last week.   Peabody should win the region.   If Gibson County beats McKenzie, then Union City takes second, Gibson County is third and Trinity is 4th.   If McKenzie beats Gibson County and Trinity beats Lake County then Trinity would be second and McKenzie is third and Union City falls to fourth.   If McKenzie beats Gibson County and Trinity loses to Lake County that puts them and Union City tied with 5 overall wins.   McKenzie would drop out of that tie breaker with 4 overall wins.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
