Gearing towards the first day of full pads and this awful 7v7 stuff can get behind us. Wanted to hear all the hype still out there however and what everyone was thinking about their teams. We all know I'm a South Doyle fan so I have to start there. Have heard their passing game has been extremely good as well as their defense. Young has been looking unstoppable in the open field. Although this is still just passing. Powell seems to be looking good with Trusley still behind center. I have heard Fulton is having a rough spot but their new QB has been starting to come together. Central hasn't been making a lot of noise in the 7v7 world but maybe that's a good thing? What's everybody's prediction for their team?

So Alcoa loses to Maryville and Blackmon?

Yes, Will be a very good ballgame but it is away for Alcoa and Blackman will have a large crowd there and a bit of home advantage because of that. Alcoa will get banged up more than normal in a game like this and also has Austin-East the following Friday Night with one day less to prepare. This isn't the Pigskin Classic in Corbin, Kentucky. If it were at Alcoa I would give them the win but it's not.

Corbin prevailed on the scoreboard in that one.

Alcoa loafed all during that game which let the dogs hang around and pull that one off.  I know the refs may have helped a tad bit in that one but you put yourself in that position when you had the chance all game long to knock them out and you failed to do so.

By the way I hope I'm wrong about the Blackman game and Maryville going out in the 4th game against Oakland. The Alcoa and Maryville game has a lot to do with the front end of the Rebels schedule loaded down with Lollipops versus Alcoa having to take on Blackman and A-E before that matchup.

Mt. Juliet might be the team this year. How is a 6'5" QB gonna tuck under center in the "it's really not a Wing-T, that's just our base set" offense?

That would be nice, when one team starts to dominate it really starts to hurt the game and people quit going when things are predictable. That's what 6 classifications have caused.

That's a fair breakdown. The Blackman game is a long road trip, on a Saturday, against a huge school with lots of talent.  I've heard with the other schools that may come for the Saturday game, they may expect between 8K and 10K  people in attendance. Its these type of games you live for, so I'm glad its on the schedule.

Alcoa needs to go into Maryville game healthy. I think the Maryville/Alcoa game, as so often in the recent past, comes down to one key play.

Central seems to struggle early on offense every year of late but would look for them to be very tough on defense and score enough to get through.  I look for Powell to be the team to beat this year in 5A. Powell vs Greeneville in the first Thursday Night Rivalry game should be a great game.  I'm a closet South Doyle fan so I hope they do well and believe they have the talent to make a run at it.

In 4A you have to believe it will be Greeneville and Anderson Co again.

It goes without saying that Alcoa will again be unstoppable after returning most of their starters from last year.  Austin East should be good but they're in the wrong region along with Gatlinburg who should be a solid team.

Greenback is looking pretty good again with a solid senior class.  Coalfield will challenge them again this year for the region title and Oliver Springs will be competitive along with Harriman.

Maryville will be the team to beat in 6A if they can get past William Blount.

    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say the have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
    • Crazy how the thread just gets deleted when facts come out.
    • I understand I guess it depends on the school you are with and the time you want to put in.  It’s evident of the schools that don’t put in as much times.  I would say basketball players put in as much time as any sport in our school system and this is coming from a football town.  Bball is a longer season than other sports.
    • 7 Pages of complaining because the lacrosse team put removable lines on the field so that they could practice/play lacrosse  Y'all boys are bored huh lol
