I was there. The brand new Governors made their uniformed debut the week before at the Jamboree at Alcoa High School. The next week at home to open the regular season, Maryville won 17-0. It was 7-0 at the half and the MHS coaches were livid. MHS was the defending 1978 State Champions.

I was on that Maryville team. Coaches were really mad after that game. Coaches were even madder the next week . Maryville lost to Chattanooga Kirkman. Kirkman went 2-8 that year. Reason they went 2-8 is the lost their stud quarterback to a broken leg the next game. The quarterback and that stud receiver beat Maryville .
