Haywood @ Olive Branch MS

I didn’t realize until today that Olive Branch’s coach (Tyler Turner) had a very successful stint at Liberty Technology.  In Coach Turner’s two years (2015-2016) at Liberty, the Crusaders went 25-4.  Haywood’s coach (Chris Smith) comes to Haywood from Germantown where he had a very successful tenure with 2 undefeated regular seasons in his last 2 years with the Red Devils.  I’ve also read that Coaches Turner and Smith are good friends.   That being the case, I would expect the two teams to be somewhat similar in style as well as the match-up between the Tomcats (2-0) and the Conquistadors (0-1) to be somewhat of an “instant” rivalry as I’m sure both teams will have some extra motivation to win this one for their coach.  It should be a good game.  Does anyone have any more information and/or thoughts about this game?

Olive Branch is a Class 6A school and entered the season picked by many as the best team in the state. They are a defensive oriented team as Turner is considered a defensive guru. Haywood entered the season with many expecting a rebuilding year as they lost 32 seniors. They have been quickly elevated to number one in Class 4A. Smith is thought of more of an offensive coach, but has a really good defensive coordinator as well. It's hard to pick against a coach who hasn't lost a regular season game since October 2016 (23 straight). Most picks I have seen favor OB by anywhere from 7 to 14 points, although Michael Odom of the Jackson Sun and Donovan Stewart both picked Haywood. Should be a great game.

Haywood May fall in the rankings. Thats a big loss even if it is outta state

They can fall in the rankings all day long.  The only team in the west that can play with Haywood is Dyersburg and I still like the Tomcats by 3 scores.

The real question is who represents the east this year???
