Dyersburg will show up but imo they were way overrated. They are a year away. Playing multiple sophomores and losing middle linebacker and fullback was a massive blow. My heart hurts for #42. He was a beast and his career might be over.

I hate it for #42 as well.  I hope this injury will not destroy his dreams or career.

Both Haywood and Dyersburg come into the game with 3-1 records. and both have been ranked in the top ten (4A).  Ironically, both have suffered 35 point losses.  Haywood lost 42-7 to Olive Branch on Sept. 6, and Dyersburg lost 35-0 to Hardin Co. on Sept. 13.  This is a huge region game for both teams, and they usually play each other tough.  I won't make any predictions as to the score, but it should be another good game between these region rivals.

As of today, Cal Preps projects a score of 48 -17 in favor of Haywood.  Sonny Moore's power rankings give Haywood an 18 point edge.

However, when you play the game, you can throw all of those projections and rankings out the door.  Teenagers can be unpredictable.   Attitude, motivation, injuries, along with other factors can be game changers.  As a case in point, the power ranking for Dyersburg on Sept. 13 was 7 points higher than Hardin County's ranking, yet Hardin Co. defeated Dyersburg 35 - 0.

That's why we play the game!

If Haywood stays focused, and the Cats can cut the penalties, I do think Haywood will win.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
