What were point spreads with each meeting of the two schools? No idea on the spreads, but here's a brief summary of those matchups: 2009 opener @ SD - Powell heavily favored. Powell (Lowe) won, 31-0. The Panthers had a young nucleus of sophomores, finished 5-5, eventually losing to Sullivan South in the opening round of the playoffs. SD was winless that year. 2010 opener @ Powell - Powell (Lowe) won, 49-0. That Panther team was one of their best, going undefeated in the regular season. Dy'shawn Mobley was suspended for the playoffs, and they were upset by AC in the 2nd round. SD's lone win was against Cocke County. 2015 finale @ Powell - Toss-up game. Powell (Ellison) won, 23-17. Both teams were winless coming in to that game. That was Powell's first season under Rodney Ellison, and were reeling after what had happened the year before. 2016 finale @ SD - SD heavily favored. SD (Duncan) won, 49-14. Cherokees had a good year, going 5-5, and made a great playoff run that ended in the semifinals against Farragut. Powell's lone win came against Karns. 2017 finale @ Powell - SD favored. SD (Duncan) won, 46-27. Cherokees had another strong year, going 5-5, before dropping a rematch against Central in the quarterfinals. Powell improved tremendously in year 3 under Ellison, finishing 5-5. 2018 finale @ SD - Powell was probably a slight favorite. Powell (Lowe) won, 27-13. Lowe returns to Powell, has to forfeit 6 wins, and the Panthers finished 2-8. Powell would have done some damage in the playoffs, had they been eligible. SD had a great regular season, finishing 7-3, but crashed out of the playoffs in the 1st round against Tennessee High. 2019 finale @ SD - Toss-up game. Powell (Lowe) won, 15-12. Panthers complete their first undefeated regular season since 2011, and their third under Matt Lowe. SD with another strong regular season, finishing 7-3. If both keep winning, these two will tangle again in the semifinals. Edited November 5, 2019 by osunut2
BarneySox2007
I was just looking at the brackets for the first time and saw where Lenior City made it into the playoffs with a 1-9 record to take on Powell. How in the world does something like that happen. The only team LC beat was Heritage and their 0-10 and that was by 1 point.
dawgs82
Top 4 teams in each region make the playoffs, only Region 4 only has 4 teams with Catholic moving to the private division this year.

Lenoir City plays in a region that only has 4 teams, so they all make the playoffs. And that is a perfect example of what is wrong with the current TSSAA football playoff system.
