Did you fix your coffee differently? Maybe perhaps you changed your diet? Or maybe the wife gave you an extra kiss? Because usually you are threatening me, I consider this statement polite. I don't know what it is, but whatever it is you need more of it, I'm enjoying this nice version of greyrider

Greyrider is always nice to Elementary and Middle School students. :D

From the JC Press:     https://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Football/2019/11/18/Four-reasons-for-four-teams-to-believe.html?ci=stream&lp=5&p=

WHY D-B SHOULD WIN

Tradition

The Indians have been in the playoffs 26 times in the last 27 years, reaching the quarterfinals nine times and the semifinals four times.

Road game for Maryville

Dating back to 2015, Maryville is 16-0 when playing at home in the playoffs. In true road games, the Rebels are 0-2 in that stretch.

J. Fred Johnson

D-B has the only stadium north of Knoxville that could actually put intimidation on the other foot. A big crowd could give the Tribe an edge.

Defense

The Indians have held six opponents to one score or less with four shutouts.

WHY MARYVILLE SHOULD WIN

Tradition

The Rebels have won 16 state championships, dating back to the Ted Wilson days in the 1970s. The Rebels have reached the finals 16 times in the last 19 years.

Efficiency

Maryville has scored between 42 and 49 points seven times in 12 games. They have scored at least 30 points in every game but one.

Defense

The Rebels have posted four shutouts in their last five games.

Comparative scores

Maryville beat Science Hill (42-0) and Alcoa (17-3) while D-B lost to Alcoa (21-6) and Science Hill (23-17).

85% 17-3

Same article:

PICK OF THE WEEK

Maryville 21, Dobyns-Bennett 10

Playing the Rebels tough is one thing. Beating them over the course of four quarters is a much different challenge.

That's a solid defense if they hold the Rebels to 21. IT took how many fumbles for Alcoa to hold them to 17?

My expectations for Friday is that other than Alcoa, DB will be tougher than anyone else Maryville has played.  But only if the A team shows up. Not the rainy night B team that showed up vs Science Hill.  And I am concerned about that.  Maybe the Indians learned from that experience.

If A team arrives I think the Indians will score TDs 2-3 times and will somewhat limit Maryville's offense, especially early.  DB has good depth so this will be a 4 quarter, hard fought game. Kickoffs will be into the end zone and they will not miss an extra point. Kicking team is great.  I expect 1 or 2 FGs because Maryville will deny TDs and DBs very good kicking team will score.

So I expect the final score will be in the area of 25 pts for DB and 40 pts for Maryville.

If the B team shows up, 55-7.

But next year will be a barn burner.

Better take care of this year first

To be honest with you my post is saying a scrimmage game is what they are just a scrimmage. Yes I was very concerned after the Catholic Scrimmage just like Oak Ridge was against Maryville. I think both of those games did each team well in the long run. Maryville has always in the past gained steam down the home stretch sort of like Kentucky's Basketball team and this team isn't any different. I am surprised that Catholic isn't playing right now. Something don't add up over there to me for some reason.

Barney you know no matter what happened in the scrimmages that you guys are still going to the final four, seriously I pull against murvil every chance I get, but even I acknowledge that. Lord willing I will be db biggest fan come Friday but when a team is 63pts better you just have to accept the facts.

Now the score won't be 63-0, of course murvil will call off the dawgs but 42-7, 7 coming against the 2nd string

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
