REBELRON
Gary Rankin has made a huge difference in Alcoa. Alcoa is much more physical than they used to be. Funny thing is a lot of Alcoa fans want rid of him.

I think some of that comes from the community worrying that Coach Brian Nix might leave before Coach Rankin retires?..... And, the general belief the offense would be better with Coach Sweetland calling the plays 100%?

I think that it's awesome that Alcoa plays an old school brand of football in an era where so many high school football coaches are so eager to become "the next big thing" and re-invent the forward passing game. One of my all-time favorite games to watch as a fan of high school football was the 2010 Maryville Thursday night game (at Maryville) where both teams traded scores in a shootout and Alcoa drove the football down the field in the late stages of the game and scored on a fourth down trap option play. Alcoa typically has way too much speed and talent to be limited to " 4 yards and a cloud of dust football". Since Coach Sweetland has added the "forward Pass", Alcoa has been able to KEEP QB's from going to other area schools. The wide open passing game was the difference in beating Maryville last season and the lack of, the reason for losing this season.
